The bridge is also famous for its number of pictorial panels which date back to the 17th century and are lined across the bridge in triangular wooden blocks. These pictures were painted by Hans Heinrich Wagmann and illustrated the history of Lucerne.  Another point of attraction is the Water Tower; earlier a prison, the tower now serves as a club and is not open to the public.

Observe The Water Tower

A yet another attraction of the Kapellbrucke is the Water Tower that was erected around 1290 to 1300. Observe the tower with its rather unique edifice and octagonal shape. Learn how the tower served as a lookout post for monitoring the boats of the town’s bay during its inception. It also had a part to play in the town’s lake-facing fortifications and also served as a cantonal treasury and safe place for war plunder. The Water Tower today has an extensive display of weaponry in its armoury.
