Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen Overview

Amalienborg Palace is home to the Danish Royal Family, situated in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. The palace was constructed in the 1750s as the centre of the surrounding Frederiksstaden neighbourhood. How To Reach

By Car: Amalienborg Palace is approximately 3.6 km from the city centre of Copenhagen, Denmark, via Øster Voldgade. You can cover the distance within 10 minutes by a cab.  

By Bus: You can take bus 23 from Gammel Strand St. Christiansborg (Vindebrogade) to Odd Fellow Palæet (Dronningens Tværgade). The bus operates every 30 minutes and takes around 6 minutes to reach. Further, the palace is within a 5-minute walking distance from the bus station. 

By Subway: You can take subway M4 or M3 from Rådhuspladsen St. (Metro) to Marmorkirken St. (Metro). The subway runs often every 5 minutes and takes around 4 minutes to reach. Further, the palace is within 4-minute walking distance from the subway station.

Amalienborg Palace is a year-round attraction, so plan your visit as per your availability and seasonal preferences. 

  • Best season: The best season to visit the Amalienborg Palace is between June and August, as the weather conditions during this season are pleasant. 
  • Best day in the week: The best day in the week to visit the Amalienborg Palace is on the weekdays, as weekends can be crowded. Moreover, the palace is closed on Mondays during winter between October to April.  
  • Best time of the day: The best time of the day to visit Amalienborg Palace is around 12 noon. You can witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony on the streets of Copenhagen.
