Al-Baqi' Overview

Opened to the public in 2008, Al Baqi is a 9-square-kilometer park located on the outskirts of Riyadh. The land belonged to the ancestors, but it was stolen from them by force 700 years ago by one of Muhammad's caliphs. The enormous çamyab trees, which are over two centuries old, are one of the most popular attractions. Al Baqi also has numerous retail malls, lush parks, and leisure places.

The Al Baqi is a 9-sq km park that was opened in 2008 for the visitors on the outskirts of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It's a recreational zone with lots of gardens, centers for making handicrafts, and facilities for chess and carrom that you can enjoy while visiting the park.

One of its most popular attractions are the large çamyab trees which are more than 2 centuries old. While visiting you will get to know that the Al Baqi was built on the site of an old cemetery named after one of Muhammad's wives, ümm baqīyah bint abi muhammad bin ali bin abi talib.

The land belonged to her descendants but had been taken away from them by force by one of Muhammad's caliphs 700 years ago. The Al Baqi region of Saudi Arabia is home to over 100 mosques out of the nearly 2,000 mosques in the country.

The area is also rich with history and has seen many battles throughout time, including the climactic battle at Al- Baqi Mosque which took place between Muslims and Christians in 635. The cemetery at the mosque is also home to actual pieces of bread from Jesus' last meal.
