About the Activity:

  • A campsite in Bannerghatta, envied for its pure surrounding and mind blowing wildlife comes up with an innovative idea to let your children develop a genuine interest in protecting the wildlife through a three day camp of wildlife photography and birding.
  • Once your children are picked up from the specific point in Bangalore, they will be taken to the campsite near Bannerghatta National Park, on the edge of a gleaming lake, and offering a perfect gateway to experiencing the joys of birding, wildlife tracking, angling and wildlife photography.
    The award-winning wildlife photographer Phillip Ross is the camp leader who is dedicated his time to invoke the enthusiasm hidden in children to know the wide vistas of wildlife photography and the very sensitive wildlife species as a whole.
    Explore the rich diversity portrayed by Mother Nature all around the campsite, meet the chances to spot tigers, leopards, wild dogs and thousands of insects and creepers.
  • Any child or teen between the ages of 10 and 16 is welcome to enrol for this workshop. There are no other eligibility criteria, just a passion to learn photography.
  • There are three variants available: 1) for single participant, 2) for a group 2 participants and 3) for an already registered member attended three workshops before.


  • Day 1 -

    Get picked up from Bangalore around 08:00 AM and travel to your campsite.

    In one hour you will reach the beautiful location where you are going to spend the next three days.

    Check-in and meet Phillip Ross who will introduce you to the wild nature around the campsite and the sessions of photography.

    After an ice breaking session, you are going to listen to what Phillip is talking about ornithology and afterwards, walk around the campsite to spot some avian wonders.

    Post this, lunch will be served to you.

    Later, take your cameras out and indulge in a session in which a presentation on nature photography will be done.

    The ideal camera settings for shooting wildlife, how to carefully approach and photograph wildlife in order to capture fantastic images and also the best ways to compose a beautiful image will be explained by Phillip.

    Walk in to the wide world of bird photography hide, where your can practice what you have learnt from the photography lesson, and get to see and photograph birds like never before.

    After the hide photography session, disembark on an exciting trek to a nearby hill to behold the enticing views of the forests of Bannerghatta.

    Enjoy an amazing sunset, click stunning landscape images and, if lucky, sight some of Bannerghatta’s wildlife in the valleys below.

    On your way back from there, you get the chances to learn about camera trapping and set up a camera trap, hoping that some of Bannerghatta’s nocturnal wanderers chose to walk by sometime during the night or in the wee hours of the morning.

    Once back at the campsite, have a fun entertainment and sing-along session while enjoying the campfire, and hit the sack soon after a scrumptious dinner.

  • Day 2 -

    Wake up early to bring your eyes to the most wonderful scenes in the world

    Then take the fishing rods and bait and head out to reach the water's edge.

    Phillip will now introduce the art of angling to everyone, and you will learn about the various fishing methods, types of tackle and species of fish found in the lake, and how to cast, set the hook and carefully retrieve the catch without hurting the fish. Please remember that all fish caught will be released back into the lake.

    Rush back to the campsite after the activity and have breakfast.

    After breakfast, leave to retrieve the camera trap. Once the camera trap is checked to know what kind of images are being clicked and then continue on your bird-watching trail.

    Return to the campsite for lunch and review the photographs taken during the camp, while Phillip, presents a session on “taking great photographs”.

    Post-lunch, return to the bird photography hide after you relax for sometime.

    Early mornings and evenings are when the hide activity is at its peak. You may get to capture full-frame images of birds such as the red spurfowl, barred buttonquail, white-rumped shama, Tickell’s blue flycatcher and many more.

    Late in the evening, embark on a night walk; walk along the boundaries of the property looking for various frogs, insects and other nocturnal life. Set up the camera trap for another night before returning for a delicious dinner and a good night’s sleep.

  • Day 3 -

    In the morning, get ready to do a trekking to another hill with a target in the heart that to track and find the rare yellow-throated bulbul.

    Phillip knows this area well, and has had several sightings of this pretty bird in the past. On the way back down, once again check the camera trap that you deployed the night before and then return to the campsite for a steaming hot breakfast.

    Post this, Phillip will help put together the bird checklist and talk about wildlife conservation and the steps we can take in order to make a change.

    Finally, wind up the informative and enlightening sessions on birding and wildlife photography and bid adieu to the captivating campsite.

  • If cancellations are made before 30 days prior to the start date of the activity, 10% of the booking amount will be charged as cancellation fee.
