About the Destination:
A trekking destination that is rarely visited and boasts of unseen scenic marvels, trekking in Har ki Dun trail is situated near Uttarkashi in the Garhwal Himalaya. It is a treat for trekkers, ornithologists, adventurers and lovers of nature. Sitting pretty at 3556m, the Har ki Doon valley is astonishingly beautiful, consisting of majestic, glittering mountains in the north-west side.
The Har ki dun valley is home to rich wildlife, diverse flora like walnuts, willows, chinars, pine and deodar and plenty of breath-taking scenery. As part of this expedition, you will go to Sankri through Mussoorie, visit the Rupin River and also travel to Osla Village. You will also visit the Morinda Lake and discover the stunning Jaundhar Glacier, one of the two largest glaciers in Uttarakhand in the Tons Valley, with its thick terrain and debris.
Drive from Dehradun to Sankri (via Mussoorie) (166km/5-6 Hours by Road)
Following your arrival in Dehradun, you will be driven to Sankri through the Mussoorie route. On the way, visit the Kempty Falls, 15km from Mussoorie and situated in Uttarakhand. Post this, continue the drive towards Purola, which is located at a height of 1,524m. Situated in the thick of rich forest area and wildlife, especially the endangered snow leopard, it is also known as the ‘Gate to Har Ki Dun’. Arriving here, settle down in a rest house/tent.
Trek from Sankri toTaluka (1,900m)
Sankari is lined with some spectacular views of the forest land and the valley. You will take the road from Sankri, a good one that goes all the way down to the valley and close to Rupin River. Reach Taluka, a small village that sits at 1,900m, boasting of intoxicating wild roses, lush deodars and rich flora. Along with guest houses, you will also find shacks which offer provisions to the people here; overnight stay will be in rest house/tents.
Trek from Taluka to Osla Village (2,560m)
Today, you will take the path from Taluka, with its interesting downturns and climbs, finally straightening out on the left side of the valley, merging into some beautiful forest area. Enjoy poetic chestnut, willow and walnut trees, all the way up to Gangar Village. From here, proceed towards the Seema campsite that lies opposite to Osla Village and is a busy, yet small settlement with many shops, provisions and even a tourist bungalow; overnight stay in rest house/tents.
Trek from Osla to Har Ki Dun (3,566m)
Today's trail explores many variations. From Seema, you will proceed to the valley and then to its right, crossing a hanging bridge over Rupin River. Later, ascend through pictorial fields, lush coniferous plants and beautiful meadows till you reach Kalkatti Dhar. A ridge that will give a vantage point to view Har ki Dun, you have to cross picturesque streams, meadows and serene valleys to reach the basecamp in Har Ki Dun. While advancing towards the campsite, you can expect an initial gradual climb with steep stretches in between; overnight stay in the camp beside the stream.
Exploring Har Ki Dun
This day will be devoted towards exploring the immaculate beauty of Har Ki Dun. After breakfast in the camp, get set to hike around the campsite and explore the reasons of the valley being called as 'Valley of the Gods'. After visiting the beautiful Morinda Lake, which is about 3km from Har ki Dun, you will head to Jaundhar glacier, located about 10km away and then return to camp; overnight stay in the camp.
Trek from Har Ki Dun to Osla Village
You will indulge in an easy trek back to Osla, the village where Duryodhana from the Mahabharatha was revered and worshipped. This will take about 3 to 4 hours and you will be camping here for an overnight stay.
Trek from Osla to Taluka
Today morning, after having breakfast in the Osla camp, start trekking back the Taluka settlement. Enjoy the stunning views and the untouched beauty of the nature on your course and arrive in Taluka; overnight stay will be in a local hotel.
Trek from Taluka to Sankri
On the last day of your trek, you will be trekking back to Sankri. Easy and pleasant, the trek will take you through some of the most magnificent trails, you have already traversed through! Arriving in Sankri, check-in into a rest house/tent and retire for the day.
Drive from Sankri to Dehradun (215km/7-8 Hours by Road)
Today will be your last day of this astounding trekking in Har Ki Dun. Waking up in the morning; after breakfast, you will be driven back to Dehradun. Arriving in the capital city of Uttarakhand, the tour will conclude, and you will be free to explore this magnificent city on your own.
