About the Kuari Pass Trek:

With a visit to popular pilgrim cities such as Rishikesh, Devprayag, Joshimath, and Haridwar, the Kuari pass trek, situated in Garhwal Himalaya is a 33-kilometer-long journey. The trek is famous for letting you look at India’s second-highest peak, Mount Nanda Devi.

The trek at an altitude of 12,516 ft. also offers you summit views of Dronagiri, Chitrakantha, Chaukhamba, and Tali. The interlude of meadows, beautiful forests blooming with rhododendrons, and oak trees makes your path all the more scenic. While on the trek, you can also admire the mesmerizing views of holy rivers such as Bhagirathi and Alakananda, which makes the ascent even more exciting.

How to Reach Haridwar:

  • By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun serves as the nearest airport to Haridwar. Visitors can take a direct flight to Dehradun from Mumbai or Delhi or connecting flights from anywhere in India. Local vehicles can be used from outside the airport to reach Haridwar by road from Dehradun.
  • By Train: Reaching Haridwar By Trains: Haridwar Junction Railway Station (IR station code: HW) is well-connected by train, with frequent trains to Delhi (4-5 hours) and Dehradun (1 hour). There are also a few trains per day to Rishikesh.
  • By Road: Haridwar is well connected by roads to all major cities and towns, so people, as per their choice and comfort, can take the bus to reach Haridwar smoothly. Haridwar is connected to Chandigarh (205km), Delhi (210km), Dehradun (59km), and Nainital (223km) through a good network of roads

Kuari Pass Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Rishikesh to Joshimath (Drive 280 Km) | Altitude: Joshimath 6724 ft

Trekking Distance: 0 Kms.

Rise and shine in Rishikesh! Your adventure begins with your driver picking you up at a pre-decided spot and whisking you away towards the mountains.

Rental in Bolero, Tempo Traveller or similar

The driver will pick you up early in the morning from the pre-decided spot in Rishikesh and will help you with the transfer from Rishikesh to Joshimath for an overnight stay.

Day 2
Joshimath to Gulling Top via. Dhak

Trekking Distance: 5 km.

Depart from Joshimath, and our first stop is Dhak village, nestled amidst breathtaking Himalayan scenery. Lace up your shoes and get ready for a thrilling trek up Gulling Top! Cross Dhak village, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and soak in the panoramic vistas.

Rental in Bolero, Tempo Traveller or similar

The driver will pick you up early in the morning from Joshimath and will help you with the transfer to Dhak village, from where your trek starts.

Activity: Unveiling the Himalayas from Gulling Top

Begin your trek towards the Gulling Top.

The trail, despite being uphill throughout the way, is visually pleasing and stunning enough to forget about the exhaustion.

Reach the Gulling Top and enjoy the elusive views of the Dronagiri and Nandadevi Ranges.

Day 3
Trek from Guling to Khullara Top | Altitude: 11,122 ft Trek : 6 Km.

Trekking Distance: 6 km.

Fuel up, trekkers! Today, expect a scenic, mildly steep ascent (5–6 hours), and the views will melt your fatigue. Have lunch at camp, then lose yourselves in Khullara's beauty. Bonfire tales, starry skies, and cozy tents are waiting for you.

Activity: A Tranquil Trek to Khullara Top

Commence trekking toward Khullara Top after breakfast.

The trek will be mildly steep, and it ascends throughout the way to Khullara.

The trail passes through an intense forest of oak, rhododendron (mostly pink and white), walnut forest conifer, and miniature gushing streams on the way invoking the emotion of tranquility.

Settle at the Khullara Top after a 5–6 hour trek, reveling in the serene mountain environment.

Day 4
Khullara to Kuari Pass to Khullara | Altitude: 14,700 ft. Trekking12 km

Trekking Distance: 12 Km

Conquer Kauri Pass: 3-hour climb, steep start, ridge walk, snowy summit, panoramic views, return to camp for starry tent slumber. Breathe in epic snow-capped vistas from the top. Descend and rest in your tent for a starry night under the peaks.

Activity: Unveiling Kauri Pass's Majesty

Commence trekking towards Kauri Pass after breakfast.

The trail starting from Khullara is steep; thereon, the path goes on the mountain ridge and reaches the top through a snow patch.

From the top, get all geared up for the divine views of the mighty Himalayas. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Dronagiri, Chitrakantha, Chaukhamba, and Tali.

Enjoy the scenic beauty and the sounds of nature as you make your way down to Khullara Top for an overnight stay in tents.

Day 5
Khulara to Joshimath | Altitude: 6,724 Trekking 11 km trek and 12 km drive

Trekking Distance: 11 Km

Farewell mountains! Trek back from Khullara to Dhak (11km), then wind down the scenic drive to Joshimath with a yummy lunch stop. Relax with chai and a trek debrief, savor dinner, and unwind as the stars twinkle above.

Activity: Towards Joshimath's Embrace

Begin the descent from Khullara Top to Dhak Village, tracing a downhill path.

Start the journey with a gentle decline through the forested routes, savoring the mountainous breeze and the tranquil sounds of nature.

Reach the guest house at Joshimath, marking the conclusion of the downhill trek. Upon arrival, check in and take a well-deserved rest.

Day 6
Joshimath to Rishikesh | 8 hours drive

Trekking Distance: 0 km.

Start the day with breakfast, and the group will depart for Rishikesh, carrying cherished memories in their hearts. The tour concludes upon reaching Rishikesh.

The driver will drop you back at Rishikesh, where your unforgettable Kauri Pass Trek ends.

Know Before You Go for Kuari Pass Trek

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • Consult a physician before undertaking the trek. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the trek
  • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • Avoid consumption of alcohol or any other intoxicants during the trek.
  • The trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travelers littering may be fined.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
  • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.
  • In case, the trek needs to be canceled, the authorities should be informed beforehand.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government are to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of mask recommended.
  • Please provide a valid ID at the time of check-in.
  • The exact location will be shared with you post-booking.
  • Professional guide(s) are available to ensure high safety and more information and personal attention which are necessary to appreciate a trek.
  • Neat and clean vehicle for the journey with experienced driver especially for hilly terrains available.
  • All the activities depend upon the weather.
  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations.
  • Mobile & laptop charging points may/may not be available on campsites at a common point.
  • Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
  • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the winter Kuari Pass trek package.
  • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for winter Kuari pass trek.
  • Itineraries are based on information available at the time of planning and are subject to change. "Thrillophilia'' reserves the right to change expedition dates, people or itineraries as conditions warrant If a trip must be delayed or the itinerary changed due to bad weather, road conditions, transportation delays, government intervention, airline schedules, sickness, or other contingency for which Thrilllophilia or its agents cannot make provision, the cost of delays and/or other changes are the responsibility of the participant. Thrillophilia reserves the right to decline, or accept, any individual as a trip member for any reason whatsoever.
  • Liability for change in itinerary due to reasons beyond our control like a change in flight and train schedule, cancellation of flights/1trains, political disturbances, natural phenomenon, roadblocks, etc. will not be accommodated in the package cost. No bill will be reimbursed for any missed service/facility.
  • During a trip, in case the roads are blocked due to landslides or a reason that is beyond control, Thrillophilia will rearrange the itinerary for the travellers real-time, however, the cost of alternative accommodation will be borne by the customer as the hotels pre-booked execute their cancellation policies and are nonrefundable.
  • Because of any reason natural or personal, if the Trek or a particular activity is not completed, no refund will be processed.
  • The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to change in the number of guests, hotel change, itinerary change, etc.
  • If in case any traveller wants to or decides to leave the trip in the middle, all the expenses from that point onwards will be borne by the traveller. Neither the operator nor Thrillophilia will be held responsible for such decisions or for any refund.
  • The refund or compensation is also not issued if for any reason you have to come down from the trek. The trek leader may send you down from the trek, owing to reasons like lack of fitness, AMS, blood pressure, turn-around-time, health issues, or if you are found smoking/ drinking, or breaking the rules of the trek. refund or compensation are issued only when the whole trek is cancelled or called off on behalf of Thrillophilia.
  • At Thrillophilia, we almost never call off or cancel our treks. But in the rare event we might have to call off or cancel a trek due to any unforeseen natural catastrophes like continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity or other issues like local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any such situations that might prevent a safe trekking experience. In such cases, Thrillophilia will issue a Credit note summing up to the same amount as your trek fee that can be redeemed on any of the treks over a period of the next year.
