On the last day of the Kanchenjunga base camp trek, you will be finally driven to the Bagdogra Airport. With your drop at the airport, this enthralling trekking expedition will come to an end.
Before getting started with this amazing trek to the Kanchenjunga trek, it is very important to get acclimatised with the prevailing climate. Spend the entire day to get acclimatised to the high altitudes and prepare yourself for an enthralling trek ahead.
4km/6 Hours Trek, Swinging Bridge, Prek-Chu, Bakhim, Mt Pandim, Mt Tenchinkhang
Begin the day with a filling breakfast and get started with your first step towards Prek-Chu. Crossing an old swinging bridge in Prek-Chu, you will be hiking through the steep slopes and make your way to Bakhim. Here onwards, the steep slopes will continue and will take you through scenic forests of pine and rhododendrons.
The entire course of your trek will be accompanied by the astounding views of the Mt Pandim (6,780m) and Mt Tenchinkhang. Trekking through these forests and steep slopes, you will finally reach a Tibetan village called Tshoka, where you will be spending overnight.
9km/5-6 Hours Trek, Phedang, Kanchenjunga Peak, Deorali Dara
The first phase of today's Kanchenjunga base camp trek, Sikkim trek will take you through the temperate forests of Phedang (3,350m) that is known for offering amazing views of the Kanchenjunga Peak and other mountain ranges. After having lunch in Phedang, a climb for around 40 minutes will take you to the top of Deorali Dara. Also known as 'Windy Hill', this ridge offers magical views of Sikkim and its surrounding peaks.
From Deorali Dara, another one hour walk through lush patches of juniper and other rhododendron species will take you to Dzongri; overnight stay will be in Dzongri.
Acclimatisation Day, Dabla Gang, Sunrise View, Laxmi Pokhari, Black Peak, Frey's Peak, Rathong Valley
Waking up early in the morning and take a walk till Dabla Gang or Dzongri La, from where you can witness the magical sunrise views over the Kanchenjunga Peak and also catch the glimpses of peaks like Rathong (6,683m), Kokthang (6,150m), Kabru Dome (6,604m) and Forked Peak (6,116m). Post this, return to the camp and after having breakfast, you will be free for the day.
If you wish, you can also take a short hike to the Black Peak, from where you can enjoy fascinating views of Frey's Peak and Rathong Valley. On a whole, the entire day will be spend to get acclimatised to the high altitudes of Sikkim.
6km/5-6 Hours Trek, Kockchurung, Prek River, Mt Pandim, Mt Kanchenjunga
Though the day will begin with an upward trek to a nearby ridge, upon reaching the ridge top, the trek will follow a sharp descend till Kockchurung and Prek River. From here, trekking through the rock strewn paths and reach the Thangsing campsite after around 5-6 hours of trekking. Arriving in the camp, enjoy an energising lunch while enjoying the amazing views of Mt Pandim and Mt Kanchenjunga; overnight stay will be in the camp.
6km/4 Hours Trek, Samiti Lake, Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt Thenchinkhang
Today's Kanchenjunga base camp trek, Sikkim will be a gentle walk and will take you to the Lamune campsite. Arriving at the campsite, unwind yourself and take a walk to the magical Samiti Lake (4,453m). This delightful walk till the lake will take you through scenic patches of rhododendrons with prayer flags adding to the beauty of the vicinity. From the lakeside, you can also catch the glimpses of the Samiti Pokhari (4,200m); a sacred lake guarded by the towering Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt Thenchinkhang. Post this walk, return to the campsite and spend overnight.
7 Hours Trek, Samiti Lake, Lamune, Zemthang, Mt It
The Kanchenjunga base camp trek for the day will be divided into two parts! The first part will begin from Lamune along the moraine paths beside the Samiti Lake. Within this part of your hike, you will be trekking towards the eastern side of the Kanchenjunga Peak and after crossing Zemthang, will take you to a campsite in Goechala. Arriving in the camp, relax for a while and take a short walk to a nearby viewpoint that offers pictorial views of Mt It (8,534m).
Returning to the Goechala camp, enjoy your lunch and take another 2 hours hike and complete the second phase of the trek. With the completion of this, you will trekking back Thangsing for your overnight stay.
12km/5-7 Hours, Phedang, Kockchurung
On today's Kanchenjunga base camp trek, you will be traversing through the same trail till Kockchurung. Here onwards, another trail through Phedang; where you will be having your lunch, will take you to a village called Tshoka. Arriving in the hamlet, settle down in a private lodge for your overnight stay.
