  • Day 3 - Darjeeling - Yuksom (1780m) (Drive/4 to 5 Hours)

This day, be driven to Yuksom that once was the capital of Sikkim. This destination will serve as the starting point of the Goechala trek. Dubdi monastery, the oldest of its kind in Sikkim is just about one hour walk from Yuksom. (some discrepancy here, in the title it is mentioned 4-5 hours drive whereas in the text 6, please confirm with the vendor). When here, check in to the hotel where you will spend the night.

  • Day 4 - Trek to Tsokha (7 to 8 Hours)

Rathong River, Oak, Pine, Rhododendrons, Magnolia, Bakhim, Tsokha, Terraced Farms

Your Goechala trekking activity begins today. Set off to Tsokha, that is around 18 km from where you are. It would take you around 7 to 8 hours to get there. Take the challenging but beautiful trail along Rathong River gorge that gets steep in some time. Make way amidst forest of oak, pine, rhododendrons and magnolia.

En route, you will be crossing around 4 bridges across different rivers. When at Bakhim, cross a tiny trekker's hut. Further 2 km, you will come across a little hamlet of Tsokha that has lovely terraced farms. This will be the final destination for the day. From here, you can enjoy great sights of the sun rising over Mt. Pandim. After a long day, retreat into the camp for the night.

  • Day 5 - Trek to Dzongri (4030m) (6 to 7 Hours)

Rhododendrons, Phedang, Deurali, Kanchenjunga, Sinolchu, Kabru, Pandim

Expect a lengthy day where the altitude would gain around 1000m. You would be making way through high and thick rhododendrons that fringe the wooden path. Somewhere along the middle of the activity, you will come across Phedang where you can have lunch. From this place, you will ascend to Deurali, a highpoint that welcomes with prayer flags and a shrine. At this place, you can set your sights on snowy peaks such as Kanchenjunga, Sinolchu, Kabru, Pandim, Jopuno, Kokthang, Narsing and Talung.

Post this; you take on a steady downhill climb to Dzongri that has some trekkers hut and grounds for camping. Be surrounded by lofty snowy summits.

  • Day 6 - Rest day at Dzongri

    Acclimatisation, Sunrise, Sunset, Short Hikes

This is the day for recuperation and acclimatisation. Those who wake up early can engage in a hike to the top of Dzongri to witness the sunrise casting a spell on the snowy peaks. You can do also enjoy great sights of sunset at this spot. If you wish, you can also undertake short hikes around. Spend the night at the camp.

  • Day 7 - Trek to Thangsing (3850m) (4 to 5 Hours)

Uphill and Downhill Trek, Prek Chu River, Thangsing

Today, you will climb up a bit from Dzongri until a high point, post which, you will climb down till Prek Chu River. From here, you climb up again to the vast grassland at Thangsing from where you can see Mt. Pandim soaring.

  • Day 8 - Trek to Lamuney (4298m) (2 to 3 Hours)

Prek Chu, Meadows, Rocky Terrain, Samiti Lake

This day, enjoy a small trek amidst meadows by the Prek Chu. The gradient is a gradual one and gets steeper as well as rocky when you get to Lamuney. A bit further is the stunning greenish Samiti Lake ringed by colourful prayer flags. Spend the night in the camp.

Samiti Lake, Pandim, Zemathang Plateau, Kanchenjunga, Rathong, Kabru, Sunrise

Brace yourself for the great trek. Begin really early, sometime around 300 AM and go walking around the Samiti Lake. Pandim will be to your right till the moraine. Descend to a sand stretch of dried lake known as Zemathang Plateau. After crossing it, climb up for around 2 hours and arrive at Goecha La. When here, soak in the breath-taking sights with a direct view of the eastern wall of Kanchenjunga along with small summits of Rathong and Kabru. It was a fun trek overall. However, I just wish it could have been better planned. I had a really great time with the beautiful backdrop. I just feel that there is something that made it look a little unorganized. I wish it could have been better.

It was an overrated trek. I wouldn’t call it a great trek; it was just about fine. I had a fine trek. It was well-organized but it is not worth all the hype. It is worth trying only once. There are more than this trek in Sikkim to visit.

Certain treks are best even when they were too tough to complete. This is one such trek. I had a great pleasure in taking this trek. It was definitely one of the toughest treks ever, but that being said, I want to say that I had a lots of fun and learning experience with this trek. I would love to do this trek again sooner.

Wow! I have no words! Best trek ever! For past few years, I haven’t been trekking, but was strictly following my fitness regime. Thanks to that, I finally took this trek and believe me, this was the best trek that I had ever taken in my life. It was hands down the best trek. Also, the organization of this trek was worth mentioning too.

I had a good trek. I have no complaints on the trek organization front, but the trek definitely seemed very tough and risky. It was quite a tiresome one too. Without ample practice and training, the trek cannot be completed successfully. I guess people must be well-equipped physically before taking this trek.

It is not every day you enter a beautiful city and experience an interesting trek. This trek is definitely one of the best treks that anyone can take. If you are visiting Sikkim, do not miss this. This is just worth every penny spent. The only drawback was that the food here is not that great to my taste buds and apart from that the staying was not that cozy.

It was a nice vacation. I always thought Sikkim as some mere sight-seeing place. Once when I came across about this trek from a friend of mine, I badly wanted to take it and it was the best thing ever.

I loved it. I am out of words to explain how awesome this trek was. This was hands down the best trek that I had ever had. I am too dumbstruck by the beauty of Sikkim to even talk about it.
