The dense forest adventure including the edamalayar forest, periyar river and edamalayar river ,and the beautiful birds. The sanctuary is quite easily accessible from the Kochi International Airport so we had no problem. Thanks to the instructor who led us through the the mysterious jungle and explored the beautiful Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. I stayed at the Jungle Homestay and really liked their service. You will love to see those beautiful birds but don't expect any large animals.

Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary lies in the lap of nature, since it has the periyar river and is also accompanied by the Edamalayar forest which is almost located about 15 km from the sanctuary.

We were really delighted by the services of the management, especially the hotel where we stayed. One thing that i loved in Kerala was that the common people even the auto walas speak in engish, wao it really the most literate state of the country. The guide informed us that the Thattekkad literally means flat forest, and also about different bird species found there.
