Cholaya Loathing (Ya) is a professional Chef and a Master of Thai cuisine, trained at the prestigious Siam International Hotel in Bangkok. Since 1983, Ya has performed a variety of roles, such as Desert Chef at the famous Casablanca Restaurant in Jakarta, the Executive Chef at a hotel in Luxembourg, and as supervisor of the Thai World Export Company in Bangkok.
Ya opened up Krabi’s first Thai cookery school, with her love of cooking, jovial personality, and attentive nature, Ya’s cookery has taught students from around the world (including the famous Chef Gordon Ramsey) the secrets of traditional Thai Cuisine.

    1. What are the timings for Krabi Cookery Classes?

      There are different timings followed for different programs. · The timing for Program A is from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. · The timing for Program B is from 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm. · The timing for Program C is from 2.30 pm to 6.00 pm. · The timing for Program D is from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Please note that Program D is available only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The remaining programs are conducted regularly from Monday to Saturday. Based on the date and timing, you can plan your program and learn some of the Thai cuisines at ease.

    2. Who is the head chef?

      The famous Cholaya “Ya” Laothong is the head chef for these Krabi Cookery Classes. She has batched a diploma in Food Nutrition from Rajamangala Institute of Technology, after receiving a successful training in the prestigious Siam International Hotel in Bangkok. She has served as a professional chef in the most popular hotels and restaurants, namely, a dessert chef at Casablanca Restaurant in Jakarta, the executive chef at a hotel in Luxemburg, and acted as a supervisor in the Thai World Export Company in Bangkok. Thus, she has spread her wings in most of the international cuisines. Just like cooking, she is equally talented in teaching students and making them aware of the necessary ingredients of Thai dishes.     5. Can I bring my own ingredients?

      Generally, students don’t bring any ingredients with them while coming to the cookery school. The school itself provides the necessary ingredients that are must-have in Thai-based cooking. They will teach you how to choose an ingredient, what are those medicinal benefits, and how it can be cooked to give more taste and aroma. However, if the chef permits to bring any specific ingredient, you can bring it and learn how to use it in your food.

    6. How many dishes will we prepare?

      The students may learn at least 8 dishes during their cooking session, and 10 dishes at the maximum. Depending on the type of program, the number of dishes also varies accordingly. For example, if you go for Program A or B, you can cook nearly 10 dishes throughout the session. If you choose Program C or D, you can cook up to 8 or 9 dishes at the end of the program. Once the program is over, you will be receiving a certificate along with some memorable photographs with the chef.

    7. Why is Krabi Cookery Classes so famous?

      Unlike other cooking classes in the world, here, students can learn the secrets of Thai cooking and the use of spices in every way. The chef would describe you about each ingredient, its name, its medicinal purpose, how to cook to get the best out of it, and so on. After finishing the course, one could feel his way of cooking has changed to a whole new level, and how to choose an ingredient that can elevate his/her cooking ability like never before. Moreover, other than cooking, one can create a lot of beautiful moments with both the chef and other students.

    8. Is this class open every day?

      Except for Sunday, all the classes are held between Monday and Saturday. Please note that Program D is conducted only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You can schedule your trip based on the Program date and timing and have a hassle-free learning.

    9. How many people take part in this class?

      On average there will be 10 – 15 people join a program. Since they are mostly from different countries, they will introduce themselves first and share their interesting cooking stories if any. In Krabi Cookery Class, there is no limit fixed as such for food lovers. Hence, any number of students can join in a program and learn cooking the Thai dishes at ease. Always remember that the more the students come, the more the fun it would be.

    10. How to reach Krabi Cookery Classes?

      The Krabi Cookery School is located at 269 Moo 2, Ao Nang, Muang, Krabi 81000 Thailand. One can reach the destination either by a bus or tuk-tuk. There is also transfer facility provided for tourists at their convenience.
