Those 8 days of Roopkund was the best days of life. The place was like a complete movie set to me. i had seen such place in movies only.

About the Activity:

A trek to the mysterious glacial Roopkund Lake is a must-do for an avid trekker. Battling several adversities common to the Himalayas, this water body perched in the laps of the snow clad Mt. Trishul is situated at an altitude of 16,499ft. It is most attractive for the human skeletons lying at the bottom of the lake, which are distinctly visible when the snow melts. Thus having several visitors although uninhabitable.

The route along this Roopkund trekking expedition is a fascinating journey of discovering the most pristine of Himalayan contribution of oak and blooming rhododendron forests. Of fairly easy nature, the trail has several ascents and steep downhill hikes, which go past mountain rivers that flow in abundance.

With some of the finest base camp locations such as Ali Bungyal, the Roopkund Trek has everything going for it.

Altitude: 5,029m

Temperature Range: During the day it is around 15° to 20°C. At night, it is around 4° to 7°C. Temp at highest camp, Bhagwabasa, ranges 5°C to 10°C in the day and 3° to -2°C at night.

Wow! I am just awestruck from the beauty of the trek still. The trek was so poignant and beautiful that it left me speechless for so long. This trek is a perfect amalgamation of fun, beauty, and thrill. To start with 8000-16000ft of hiking and trekking the snow-capped mountains was super thrilling; it was just the best experience ever. Then, the gurgling brooks nearby just was fun and fascinating. To finish it up the beauty of surroundings especially the snow filled places was sheer brilliance. If you have not taken this trek in your life, you are missing something great. This is must trip for everyone who is in to or who is interested in trekking. I totally loved this trek; what’s more the trek is quite inexpensive too.

Though I trekked multiple times at multiple locations. And my opinion is trekkers will love this Roopkund trekking ,which is full of challenges and adventures . The mysterious Lake of Roopkund is the prime attraction of the trek . It is believed that this lake's bottom is full of human skeleton which I saw. I would recommend it to first timers too and I know it will be difficult but it is worth the effort. Kudos!

Trekking was a new experience for me and it was a little difficult too. Camping was my favourite part of it all and that too at night when temperature went down to 4 degrees and made our stay even more memorable. Exploring the nearby villages and some temples too was also very interesting because you meet new people and feel the life of people there. Anyways the trek was great we had some ups and downs during the trek but finally we completed it. Thanks to our guide who was helping through out. Thumbs UP!

After canceling the plan for 2 times I finally managed to do the roopkund trek the third time. It was as good as expected though I got a little sick but the guides were smart enough to carry medicine and it was all over in no time. I hope to go there again because the memories which are created in my mind of this trek will always pursue me to go again.

Roopkund Trekking is all a trekker ever needs. Only if you try this trek you will know how awesome it is. Roopkund trekking – WOW! The trekking was awesome and fun. In fact, the trekking was quite a lot more than fun. I would personally recommend this trek, if you are an avid trekker. This might not be as fun as it sounds to others because instead of enjoying the trek you would become tired and frustrated by the trek as you lack experience and stamina. Otherwise this trek is as good as they get.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. What is the best time to go?

From May to June. Not during the monsoons. There are flash floods and landslides during that time. Monsoons start around July.

    2. What is the level of fitness expected from the participants?

The fitter you are the more you'll take away from the experience. Take as much time as you can for cardio exercise and strength training, including core strength. This will make it far easier for you to trek and explore the terrain with your guide. Moreover, exercises aid in acclimatization for the trip. Experience of walking for long distances with heavy weights (at least 15 Kg) will be a useful preparation.

    3. What kind of food will be provided during this trek? What about safe drinking water?

All meals will be provided on this trek. You will be served Indian vegetarian food during this trek. Himalayan water is considered a clean and mineral water but to be on the safe side you will get boiled water with chlorine tablets.

    4. Does one feel altitude sickness over there? If yes, how to avoid it?

Altitude sickness is very common among trekkers during himalayan treks, it is wise to consult your doctor for the right medication before your trip. Drinking lots of water can also help stabilize the body along with resting at regular intervals. The best rate of acclimatization is to gain no more than 300m (1000 feet) per a day. If you increase this rate you will be much more susceptible to Elevation Sickness. Getting adequate sleep also can help avoid this.

    5. What are the clothing and equipment which I should carry at my end?

Make sure to carry warm and comfortable clothing as temperature can drop, pack good quality trekking shoes, slippers and extra pair of socks. It’s advisable to carry sunscreen lotion or any other skin moisturisers as the sun at the top can be harsh. Water bottles and energy bars/snacks are advisable. A Flashlight (with spare batteries) will help once the sun goes down and it’s always smart to carry insect repellent and emergency medical kit.

    6. Which type of shoes should I buy?

Good quality and sturdy trekking shoes that cover your ankles. Refrain from using sport shoes for your own safety and the trails are uneven and tricky hence requiring good grip trekking shoes. If you are buying new shoes for your trek, please remember to use them for at least a month before you commence your holiday.

    7. I am a first timer. Should I go for Roopkund trek?

oopkund trek takes you to an altitude of 15696 feet requiring pristine physical and mental strength. If you are not confident enough, you should try moderate treks like Hampta Pass trek or Kuari Pass trek

    8. Will there be porters to carry my luggage?

Porters are not included in the package but you can find some at the destination for an extra cost.
