The Kang Yatse trek lies in the popular and spectacular Markha Valley. The Peak is a spectacular towering peak with two summits. The route along the Markha River is pure heaven for nature enthusiasts and the valley is home to several nomadic tribes and trekkers get to see and experience their simple lifestyle first hand. The entire route features fantastic slopes, beautiful valleys and plateaus, amazing flora and fauna and peaceful monasteries. There are pastures along the way that are covered in colourful flowers that can leave the most ardent critic in awe. The crevasse is covered with snow for most of the year and the view from the summit is truly worth the climb.

Kang Yatse Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Day 01: Take a flight from Delhi to Leh (3,500m)
  • Day Highlights: Leh Market, Local Sightseeing
  • Day Details: Arriving at the Leh Airport, get transferred to the hotel. After checking-in, spend the day relaxing and getting acclimatised to the high altitude climate. Spend your evening exploring the Leh markets and other local attractions.
Day 2
Day 02: Leh
  • Day Highlights: Leh Palace, Shey & Thikse Monasteries
  • Day Details: Spend the day getting mesmerised by the beauty of Leh! Visit the Leh Palace, find peace in Shey and Thikse monasteries, explore the town and enjoy all it has to offer. Dinner and overnight stay will be in the hotel.
Day 3
Day 03: Drive from Leh to Chilling, Trek from Chilling to Skiu (3,400m)
  • Day Highlights: First Day of Trekking, Zingchan Gorge, Indus River
  • Day Details: Start your day with a healthy breakfast before driving off to Chilling. Upon reaching Chilling, the first phase of trekking begins. Trail through the desolate plains along the Indus River and trek up through mountainous terrain along the beautiful, willow-lined Zingchan gorge. Upon reaching Skiu, settle down in the campsite and spend overnight.
Day 4
Day 04: Trek from Skiu to Markha (3,700m)
  • Day Highlights: Zigzag Terrains, Markha Village, Local Life
  • Day Details: After a light breakfast you’ll embark on a trek from Skiu to Markha. Although 3,700m, the hike is not very tiring and trails through zigzag terrains over the pristine Markha River a couple of times; the views all through the trail are gorgeous. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the village and visit a small monastery; overnight stay in camps.
Day 5
Day 05: Trek from Markha to Thachungtse (4,150m)
  • Day Highlights: Kang Yatse, Blue Sheep, Grazing Meadows
  • Day Details: After breakfast in the camp, embark on a steep climb and passing through grazing meadows, reach Thachungtse; on the way, spot some the blue sheep. Starting from here, the Kang Yatse (6400m), an awe-inspiring, snow-clad, rugged mountain will be your trek companion for the next two days. Arriving in Thachungtse, get into the camps and retire for the night.
Day 6
Day 06: Trek from Thachungtse to Nimaling (4,720m)
  • Day Highlights: Scenic Lake, Prayer Stones
  • Day Details: Trekking today, you will reach Nimaling, which is located 4,700m above the sea level and is the highest camp on the trek. On the way, you will be passing through a horizon laced with stones that has prayer inscriptions and stunning lake; overnight stay in Nimaling.
Day 7
Day 07: Trek from Nimaling to Shang Sumdo (3,660m) (via Kongmaru La (5,130m))
  • Day Hightlights: Kongmaru La, Ice Walls
  • Day Details: Today you hit the last leg of the trek as you climb up the steep slopes and pass the Kongmaru La Pass; the highest in this trek. Enjoy the most amazing ice wall views towards the north of Kang Yatse Peak and end the day on a delightful note followed by an overnight stay.
Day 8
Day 8: Drive from Shang Sumdo to Leh
  • Day Highlights: Visit Hemis Monastery, Local Markets
  • Day Details: After the morning meal, you will be driven towards Leh with an optional visit to Hemis Monastery. Arriving in Leh, check-in into a hotel and spend the evening exploring the local markets; dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 9
Day 9: Fly from Leh to Delhi
  • Day Highlights: Kang Yatse Trek with Markha Valley Tour Ends Here
  • Day Details: Following an early morning breakfast, get transferred to the Leh Airport, from where you can board a flight to Delhi.

Know Before You Go for Kang Yatse Trek

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • The trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travelers littering may be fined.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
  • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.
  • In case, the trek needs to be canceled, the authorities should be informed beforehand.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government are to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of masks is recommended.

  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations.

  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the package.
  • Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
  • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the Kang Yatse trek.
  • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for trek.
