Spend 10 nights and 11 days, Markha Valley trekking one of Ladakh’s most sought after trekking destinations- the Markha valley and come back as a different person! Take in breathtaking views of the Himalayas and the majestic Ladakh and Zanskar ranges. Trail though lush forest groves and mysterious gorges; feast your eyes on emerald green pastures and spend time in tranquil monasteries, all the while enjoying the thrill of camping.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

    Arriving at the Leh Airport, you will be transferred to a hotel. Check-in into the hotel and spend the day at leisure.

  • Day 2 -

    Spend the day relaxing and getting yourself adjusted to the weather conditions. This is much needed to prepare yourself, for the intense trip and the climatic changes ahead.

  • Day 3 -

    After a fortifying breakfast, drive to the Spituk bridge, behind Spituk monastery, which is at a distance of 7km from the town. The real adventure starts from Spituk Bridge, as you start trekking along the banks of the Indus River, along stretches of flat uninhabited landscapes, at the foot of the Stok Mountain. Step into the magical wilderness of the Himalayas, and trek through a deep gorge, to reach Zingchen .Enjoy the serene solitude to the fullest, and spend the night at camp Zingchen.

  • Day 4 -

    Leave from Zingchen for Rumbak and proceed toward the Hemis National Park, which is involved in the preservation of animals such as, Snow leopard, Baharal, marmot, wolf etc. Trek through mysterious narrow trails, which gradually widens as you approach Rumbak. Camp at the quaint and picturesque Yurutse, below the Gandala pass, which is at an incredible height of 4,875m.

  • Day 5 -

    Embark on a story book like trail from Yurutse, along a winding mountain path, cross a little fairy tale valley and follow a zigzag steep path, to reach the Gandala pass. Experience the thrill of the descent towards Shingo, which will take close to two hours. You will then arrive at the Markha Valley and after a few hundred meters, comes Skyu. Spend an adventurous night, camping in tents overnight.

  • Day 6 -

    Walk along the right bank of Markha, which is filled with beautiful vegetation. Cross the right bank of the river and barren plains to arrive at the quaint Chaluk village. Proceed towards Markha Village, crossing the left bank of the river .Spend the night camping at the end of the village, in tents.

  • Day 7 -

    Feasting on a camp style breakfast, today you will be starting with your trek to Thachungtse, crossing the Hankar village; overnight stay in tents.

  • Day 8 -

    Trek to the beautiful emerald green pastures of Nimaling, which is at a 4,900 m above sea level. The grazing sheep, goats and Yak transport you to a scene straight out of the Swiss countryside, in the summer. To the south is the Kang Yatse, a majestic mountain which can pose quite a challenge to climb.

  • Day 9 -

    Today, passing through narrow gorges, start trekking towards Kongmaru La (5,130 m). Enjoy the breath-taking views of the Ladakh Ranges and the scenic villages which lie to the north of the Indus Valley, from the top of the pass. Cross this pass and proceed to Shang and stay overnight in tents.

  • Day 10 -

    Enjoy a lovely trek by the gurgling stream, to reach the tranquil Hemis Monastery, which is one of the oldest and richest monastery in Ladakh. Drive up to Leh, with pit stops at the serene Thiksey Monastery, Shey Palace and Stol Palace, where you can experience a slice of the ancient mystic history and culture.

  • Day 11 -

    Departure from Leh
