About the Kuari Pass Trek:

With a visit to popular pilgrim cities such as Rishikesh, Devprayag, Joshimath, and Haridwar, the Kuari pass trek, situated in Garhwal Himalaya is a 33-kilometer-long journey. The trek is famous for letting you look at India’s second-highest peak, Mount Nanda Devi.

The trek at an altitude of 12,516 ft. also offers you summit views of Dronagiri, Chitrakantha, Chaukhamba, and Tali. The interlude of meadows, beautiful forests blooming with rhododendrons, and oak trees makes your path all the more scenic. While on the trek, you can also admire the mesmerizing views of holy rivers such as Bhagirathi and Alakananda, which makes the ascent even more exciting.

How to Reach Haridwar:

  • By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun serves as the nearest airport to Haridwar. Visitors can take a direct flight to Dehradun from Mumbai or Delhi or connecting flights from anywhere in India. Local vehicles can be used from outside the airport to reach Haridwar by road from Dehradun.
  • By Train: Reaching Haridwar By Trains: Haridwar Junction Railway Station (IR station code: HW) is well-connected by train, with frequent trains to Delhi (4-5 hours) and Dehradun (1 hour). There are also a few trains per day to Rishikesh.
  • By Road: Haridwar is well connected by roads to all major cities and towns, so people, as per their choice and comfort, can take the bus to reach Haridwar smoothly. Haridwar is connected to Chandigarh (205km), Delhi (210km), Dehradun (59km), and Nainital (223km) through a good network of roads

Day 1
Arrival in Joshimath
Welcome to Joshimath! a significant pilgrimage site in Uttarakhand. Your adventurous trek to Kuari Pass begins from here. Upon your arrival, check-in to your homestay and enjoy the day at leisure. You can also explore the city on your own by visiting the famous Narsingh Temple, Shri Shankraracharya Math Or experience the beautiful Auli Ropeway. Later, head back to your homestay and enjoy your overnight stay.

    Day 2
    Transfer to Dhak Village | Trek from Dhak Village to Gulling Top
    Wake up with the scenic views of the Himalayan ranges and post check-out, enjoy a scenic drive to the Dhak village, the starting point of your Kuari Pass trek. Upon your arrival, get briefed about your trail and begin your first stretch of the trek. Trek through the charming Dhak Village and witness the traditional architecture, local culture and more with the views of Dhauladhar Range and others in the backdrop. As you reach the Gulling Top, settle in your camp, followed by an overnight stay.

    Activity: Trek From Dhak Village To Gulling Top

    Trekking Distance: 5 km | Duration: 5-7 hours | Elevation: 9600 ft.

    • Once you get transferred to the charming Dhak village, which is the beginning point of your adventurous Kuari Pass trek.
    • As you begin your trek to Gulling Top, pass through the lush green valleys, serene forests, and majestic Himalayan peaks.
    • Also, traverse the Dhak village and witness local culture, customs, and architecture firsthand while traversing scenic trails.
    • Reach the Gulling Top, and enjoy the elusive views of the Dronagiri and Nandadevi Ranges providing a truly immersive experience in nature's beauty.
    • Later, settle-in your campsite, followed by an overnight stay at Gulling Top campsite.

    Day 3
    Trek from Gulling Top to Khullara Top
    In the morning, get ready for your second stretch of your trek. The trail ascends mildly through the dense oak, rhododendron and walnut forests, with gushing streams alongside. On your way, soak in the views of Pir Panjal Range, Shivalik Range and other himalayan ranges. As you reach the scenic Khullara Top, soak in the tranquil mountain ambience and settle in your campsite followed by an overnight stay.
    Activity: Trek from Gulling Top to Khullara Top

    Trekking Distance: 6 km | Duration: 5-6 hours | Elevation: 11,075 ft 

    • Start your day with breathtaking mountain views and gear up for your second stretch of the trek to beautiful Khullara Top.
    • Ascend through forests rich with oak, rhododendron, and walnut trees, with the soothing sound of flowing streams.
    • Aa you reach the Khullara Top, soak in the serene mountain atmosphere and witness the views, including the Dronagiri, Chitrakantha and other mountain peaks.
    • Later, settle-in at your campsite and enjoy your overnight stay.

    Day 4
    Trek from Khullara Top to Kuari Pass | Descend to Khullara Top
    Lace-up your shoes and enjoy an adventurous trek to Kuari Pass. Begin your trek following the trail which offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks including the Nanda Devi, Kamet, and Trishul among others. The trail is steep so don't forget to watch your steps and stay hydrated. As you reach the top, soak in the majestic Himalayan views, including the Dronagiri, Chitrakantha and other peaks. Later descend to Khullara Top, and settle in your camps, followed by an overnight stay.

    Trekking Distance: 12 km | Duration: 8-10 hours | Elevation: 12,516 ft 

    • Get ready for an interesting and adventurous day as you ascend towards the magical Kauri Pass,
    • The trail starting from Khullara is steep from where the path goes on the mountain ridge and reaches the top through a snow patch.
    • From the top of the summit, soak in the breathtaking views of Dronagiri, Chitrakantha, Chaukhamba, and Tali.
    • Later, immerse in the scenic beauty and the sounds of nature as you descend to your campsite at the Khullara Top.
    • As you reach, settle-in your camps and enjoy your overnight stay.
    Day 5
    Downhill Trek from Khullara Top to Dhak Village | Transfer to Joshimath
    Wake up to the breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas and gear up for your last day adventurous downhill trek. Fuel up with breakfast before descending to Dhak Village. On your way, pass through the dense Alpine and Mossy oak forests and reach the charming Dhak Village. Upon your arrival, get ready for a scenic drive back to Joshimath. As you reach, check-in to your homestay and relax after a tiring day.
    Activity: Downhill Trek From Khullara Top to Dhak Village

    Trekking Distance: 11 km | Duration: 8-10 hours | Elevation: 6,724 ft 


    • Begin the descent from Khullara Top to the charming Dhak Village, tracing the same old path.
    • Trek through the forested routes and immerse in the calmness along with the tranquil sounds of nature.
    • Upon reaching the Dhak Village, take some rest and witness the unique traditional architectures and cultures of the place before getting transferred to Joshimath, marking the conclusion of the downhill trek.
    • Upon your arrival in the Joshimath, check-in to your homestay and take a well-deserved rest followed by an overnight stay.

    Know Before You Go for Kuari Pass Trek

    • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
    • The management reserves all the right to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
    • Consult a physician before undertaking the trek. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
    • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the trek
    • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
    • Avoid consumption of alcohol or any other intoxicants during the trek.
    • The trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travelers littering may be fined.
    • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
    • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
    • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
    • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.
    • In case, the trek needs to be canceled, the authorities should be informed beforehand.
    • Please provide a valid ID at the time of check-in.
    • The exact location will be shared with you post-booking.
    • Professional guide(s) are available to ensure high safety and more information and personal attention which are necessary to appreciate a trek.
    • Neat and clean vehicle for the journey with experienced driver especially for hilly terrains available.
    • All the activities depend upon the weather.
    • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations.
    • Mobile & laptop charging points may/may not be available on campsites at a common point.
    • Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
    • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
    • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the winter Kuari Pass trek package.
    • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for winter Kuari pass trek.
    • Itineraries are based on information available at the time of planning and are subject to change. "Thrillophilia'' reserves the right to change expedition dates, people or itineraries as conditions warrant If a trip must be delayed or the itinerary changed due to bad weather, road conditions, transportation delays, government intervention, airline schedules, sickness, or other contingency for which Thrilllophilia or its agents cannot make provision, the cost of delays and/or other changes are the responsibility of the participant. Thrillophilia reserves the right to decline, or accept, any individual as a trip member for any reason whatsoever.
    • Liability for change in itinerary due to reasons beyond our control like a change in flight and train schedule, cancellation of flights/1trains, political disturbances, natural phenomenon, roadblocks, etc. will not be accommodated in the package cost. No bill will be reimbursed for any missed service/facility.
    • During a trip, in case the roads are blocked due to landslides or a reason that is beyond control, Thrillophilia will rearrange the itinerary for the travellers real-time, however, the cost of alternative accommodation will be borne by the customer as the hotels pre-booked execute their cancellation policies and are nonrefundable.
    • Because of any reason natural or personal, if the Trek or a particular activity is not completed, no refund will be processed.
    • The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to change in the number of guests, hotel change, itinerary change, etc.
    • If in case any traveller wants to or decides to leave the trip in the middle, all the expenses from that point onwards will be borne by the traveller. Neither the operator nor Thrillophilia will be held responsible for such decisions or for any refund.
    • The refund or compensation is also not issued if for any reason you have to come down from the trek. The trek leader may send you down from the trek, owing to reasons like lack of fitness, AMS, blood pressure, turn-around-time, health issues, or if you are found smoking/ drinking, or breaking the rules of the trek. refund or compensation are issued only when the whole trek is cancelled or called off on behalf of Thrillophilia.
    • At Thrillophilia, we almost never call off or cancel our treks. But in the rare event we might have to call off or cancel a trek due to any unforeseen natural catastrophes like continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity or other issues like local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any such situations that might prevent a safe trekking experience. In such cases, Thrillophilia will issue a Credit note summing up to the same amount as your trek fee that can be redeemed on any of the treks over a period of the next year.
