Tosar Lake Trek offers some of the finest trekking experiences in the beautiful Himalayas.

Tosar Lake is located at the altitude of 4000 meters. An amazing and rich range of flora and fauna is seen here. Vast and fresh mountain ranges are here for a trekkers delight. This trek follows old long-established Yak and cow trails in the reserve forest. Himalayan Yak safaris will be another cherished activity one can indulge into. You will experience wet temperature, broad leaved species and bamboos. Camp site at Managan is a two hour drive from Gangtok. Also, there will be other valleys on the way to explore. Visit some villages like, Managan “ Naga out side the Reserve forest. For fishing, there is the Changu Lake, where you need to take permission. Explore Yumthang Valley “ known as Valley of Flowers.

Managan village: Known as The district headquarters of North Sikkim, Managan is a small village. It has a lot to offer you. You can cherish the majestic view of mount Siniolchu. Explore the Phensong and Phodong monasteries. This pristine village is famous for its rich and varied flora and fauna and small gardens.

Yumthang valley: Located around 140km north of Gangtok, Yumthang valley is a unique place where you will find yourself surrounded by flowers. The aroma of colorful flowers blends with the atmosphere.

Changu Lake: The literal meaning of Changu Lake is ˜ source of the lake. This lake is situated about 35 km from Gangtok. It is surrounded by dense and pleasing forests of alpine. These woods are a home to rare animals. You may spot species of Blue and yellow poppies, Primulas, etc.

How to get there

By Air: Sikkim doesnt have any airport, but the nearest Airport is Bagdogra (near Siliguri) in West Bengal, which lays only 125kms away from Gangtok the capital of Sikkim. Bagdogra is linked with cities like Delhi and Kolkata.

By Road: Sikkim can be reached through northern areas of West Bengal. Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri are directly connected to Gangtok and other cities of the state. Avoid traveling during the monsoon seasons. Temporary problems may occur.

By Rail: The nearest Railways Station is New Jalpaiguri (near Siliguri), which is linked with Gangtok. Gangtok has an extensive rail network with major Railway Stations in India, such as Kolkata, Delhi. It is also linked with the cities of Northeastern India like, Guwahati.

Best time to visit: March to June and September to December.

  • A moderate trek requires normal fitness.
  • Make sure that you do not dirty the surrounding places during your trek.
  • All the waste should be disposed off away from the camping site.
  • Approach guide, if needed, or travel in groups rather than alone.

Other Attractions in the Vicinity

Chungthang: Only around 100 km away from Gangtok, Chungthang is bounded by lofty mountains. Chungthang is set at the union of the Lanchen Chu (Tista) and the Lachung Chu. The story reveals that, Guru Padmasambva had rested, meditated and spread some grains on this place.

Kabi Longstock: Before Phodong, 20 km away there is Kabi Longstok. It has a very famous monastery to visit.

Singik: Singik will leave you spellbound with its striking views of Mt. Khangchendzonga . This place has some interesting and short nature tracks which pass through high ridges and lofty hills.
