When you find a travel team that clicks with your style, you tend to stick with them. For Aditi Syal, a software engineer from New Delhi, and her partner, this summer escape to Turkey was a highly anticipated milestone. Having previously explored the tropical waters of the Maldives back in 2021, the couple was eager to experience the rich history and dramatic landscapes of the Mediterranean this time around.

Planning a multi-city international journey can get incredibly chaotic while juggling a busy tech career. To ensure a stress-free experience, they sought a customised itinerary that could accommodate their specific preferences, including curated vegetarian meals and seamlessly timed domestic flights. From the initial planning stages, the coordination team handled everything with calm and patient guidance. The smooth operational management provided the couple with immense peace of mind well before they even boarded their flight at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Landing in Istanbul on a warm mid-August evening, the couple bypassed the busy airport queues and met their private driver at the terminal. Their anniversary getaway officially began with a romantic evening cruise down the Bosphorus Strait. Floating along the sparkling waterway that splits Europe and Asia, they enjoyed a delicious dinner paired with vibrant traditional dance shows and live music. Watching the illuminated silhouette of Ottoman summer palaces drift by under the moonlight served as the perfect introduction to their Turkish holiday.

Walking Through Living History

The second morning was dedicated to diving deep into Istanbul’s massive history with a full-day Ottoman Relics tour. Strolling through the ancient Hippodrome, Aditi and her partner stood right where Roman chariot races occurred thousands of years ago, admiring the towering Obelisk of Theodosius. Next, they crossed over to the iconic Sultanahmet Imperial Mosque, famously known as the Blue Mosque because of the tens of thousands of gorgeous blue Iznik tiles lining its high interior walls. Slipping on a headscarf, Aditi walked through the peaceful, grand spaces of the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque right across the courtyard, marvelling at the massive 6th-century golden mosaics that survived the city's long history.

After enjoying a relaxed lunch featuring local vegetarian staples like gözleme and lentil soup, they spent the afternoon exploring the historic Ali Pasazade bazaar. The narrow alleyways provided a vibrant sensory experience, packed to the brim with the aroma of exotic herbs and sweet Turkish delights. The ceramic handicrafts, colourful carpets, and blue evil eye totems added a unique visual charm to the market. It proved to be the ideal spot to pick up small souvenirs for loved ones back home before concluding their time in the historic city.

Living in Caves and Martian Landscapes

A table full of flavors and a heart full of memories

On the third morning, the couple headed back to the airport for a quick domestic flight to Cappadocia. The next day called for sturdy walking shoes as they set off on a 5-kilometer hike through the striking Red and Gulludere valleys. They discovered hidden, rock-cut churches inside the cliffs before visiting the ancient, abandoned stone village of Çavuşin. After a hearty lunch, they descended into one of Cappadocia’s massive underground cities, walking through ancient stables, kitchens, and bedrooms carved deep beneath the surface.

The fifth day brought them face-to-face with the classic fairy chimneys of the Devrent and Paşabağ valleys, where the wind whistles through the strange, towering rock formations. They stopped by the old town of Avanos, a famous center for terracotta art since ancient times. Here, Aditi watched master artisans spinning red clay by hand on traditional wheels. They also visited a local carpet cooperative to watch women hand-weave intricate Turkish rugs, picking up a beautiful piece to take home. The final leg of the trip took them to the coastal wonders of Antalya on the sixth and seventh days, where the couple relaxed on the beaches and spent some quiet leisure time together. Upon returning home from their spectacular vacation, Aditi shared her feedback regarding the overall management of their trip on our website, as well as on Google Maps:

"This was our second tour with Thrillophilia, and it hopefully will book our 3rd also very soon. Impressed with their management. Special thanks to Devraj for seamless coordination and being to patient throughout. Had he not been there, we would’ve reconsidered our agency choice."
