Sometimes, the constant demands of the corporate hustle require a complete disconnect. For 40-year-old Mubashir Kovvapurath, the urge to escape the rigid daily routine became too strong to ignore. Needing a few days to step away from the world and recharge his spirit, he made a spontaneous decision. On a random weekday, without dropping a hint to anyone about his final destination, he packed his bags and set off toward the mountains of Northeast India. He wanted to experience a journey entirely for himself, away from deadlines and worldly expectations that seemed to get too heavy to carry.

To pull off this seamless disappearing act without dealing with planning stress, he handed his requirements over to Thrillophilia’s expert team, led by destination experts Akshat Jain and Mahika Sapaloke. Together, they arranged a private hatchback transfer and booked stays at the Seven Mirror Hotel in Gangtok and the Golden White Yak in Darjeeling.

The spontaneous adventure worked beautifully. For five glorious days, Mubashir disconnected from his professional life and lived completely in the moment. The seamless planning allowed him to transition smoothly from crowded transit hubs to the misty peaks of Sikkim and West Bengal.

Reflecting on how perfectly the logistics aligned with his spontaneous getaway, Mubashir shared a brief but powerful review:

"Always thrillophilia meets our needs and requirements"

Solitude by the Glacial Waters and Sacred Shrines

The iconic Nathu La Pass welcomed Mubashir to one of India's most scenic high-altitude destinations

The adventure truly began when his private vehicle carried him higher into the mountains toward Gangtok. The cool mountain air instantly began to wash away the corporate fatigue. On his first full day of exploration, Mubashir headed up the steep mountain roads to visit the legendary Tsomgo Lake. Sitting at an altitude of over 12,000 feet, the serene glacial lake was surrounded by sharp snow-covered slopes and floating clouds, offering a profound sense of peace. At first he thought the clouds to be heavy fog or mist, but a quick disucssion with one of the local changed his idea. It made him feel lighter and more elated, after knowing that he was walking through clouds!

From the lake, the drive continued further toward the Indo-China border to visit the historical Baba Mandir. The sacred shrine, built to honor the protective spirit of soldier Harbhajan Singh, carried a quiet, solemn energy. Standing among the fluttering prayer flags with the mountain wind brushing past, he found the exact mental clarity he had been searching for. The privacy of his dedicated hatchback meant there were no group schedules to follow, leaving him free to sit in quiet contemplation for as long as he pleased. He had itinatially included Nathu La in his itinerary, but due to some weathe rissues he did not get a permit. Instead, he took his time returning to the city, and took multiple breaks to chat with the driver and get to know him better.

Rolling Tea Gardens and the Healing Ridges of Darjeeling

Mubashir paused to admire the lush tea gardens, one of the most peaceful highlights of his Sikkim journey

The second leg of his solo escape took him across the valleys to the iconic hill station of Darjeeling. The drive itself was a therapeutic transition, passing through cascading green landscapes where the mist rolled gently up the hillsides. Upon arriving at his hotel, he spent his free evening walking through the local paths, enjoying the slow, unhurried pace of mountain life.

The final full day was an immersive exploration of the Queen of the Hills. He woke up early to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the Kanchenjunga range from the viewpoint at Tiger Hill, watching the snow-capped peaks catch the very first rays of golden light. This was followed by a peaceful visit to the historic Ghoom Monastery and the loop at Batasia. He spent his afternoon wandering past the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and taking long, quiet walks along the ridgelines. Exploring the mountaineering museum, he had a sudden urge to try his hand at trekking expeditions. But it was one of those fleeting thoguhts that he himself did not know would persist or not. When his private driver dropped him safely back at the station the next morning, Mubashir returned to his life completely revitalised, carrying the memories of the best five days of his life- a holiday trip in which he lived entirely for himself.
