“This trip to Japan has been a dream come true for me. I will fondly cherish memories of it forever. My heartfelt gratitude to Rajat & team and Devika Sudhir for organising and managing things so well.”– Savitha Rao

For Savitha Rao, Japan was more than another destination on a travel map. It was a dream she had carried with her, and at 60, she decided to turn that dream into a solo adventure.

Travelling alone through a country as fascinating as Japan meant having plenty to discover at her own pace. Over eight days, Savitha explored Tokyo, travelled towards Mount Fuji and Hakone, took the Shinkansen to Osaka, explored Kyoto and Nara, and experienced some of Japan’s most beautiful cultural traditions.

Tokyo Began the Dream in Style

Savitha's Japan journey began in Tokyo, where she checked into Hotel Metropolitan Edmont and settled into the city for her first three nights.

Tokyo has a way of making a first impression.

The streets are packed with energy, towering buildings rise above neighbourhoods filled with tiny restaurants and shops, and traditional spaces can appear between the modern parts of the city. Savitha spent her first full day exploring some of the capital's major attractions on a private city tour.

One of her biggest views of Tokyo came from Tokyo Skytree, where the city stretched far beyond what the eye could take in. From the observation decks, Tokyo appeared almost endless, with buildings, roads and neighbourhoods spreading towards the horizon.

Later, Savitha experienced the city from a completely different angle during a Tokyo Bay cruise. Sitting on the water with a cup of coffee, she could take in the skyline while the city moved around her.

Mount Fuji Was the Mountain Moment

Savitha and her group explored Japan’s rich culture and iconic temples

Some places are famous long before you see them.

Mount Fuji is one of those places.

Savitha's day trip towards Mount Fuji and Hakone gave her the chance to see the mountain in the landscapes that have made it such an enduring symbol of Japan. The drive took her away from Tokyo's dense cityscape and towards open views, lakes and mountain scenery.

There is something special about finally seeing Fuji in person. The perfectly shaped volcanic peak rises above the surrounding landscape, often appearing almost unreal against the sky. The mountain has been featured in paintings, photographs, films and countless travel memories, yet standing in front of it brings a completely different feeling.

The Hakone leg added another beautiful dimension to the day. With the mountains, lake views and surrounding greenery, Savitha got to experience a much quieter side of Japan. It became one of those days where the journey itself was worth remembering.

From Tokyo to Osaka, Japan Changed Again

Savitha travelled from Tokyo to Osaka aboard the Shinkansen, one of Japan's experiences that feels like a journey in itself.

Watching the scenery change outside the window, she made her way towards Osaka, where she spent four nights exploring the city and surrounding destinations.

Osaka gave Savitha plenty of opportunities to experience everyday Japanese life alongside its famous attractions. She explored the city on a private tour, discovering its streets, landmarks and lively neighbourhoods.

The trip then took her towards Kyoto and Nara, where Japan's history and traditions became the focus.

Kyoto offered a completely different atmosphere, filled with temples, traditional streets and centuries-old architecture. Nara brought another memorable cultural experience, with its historic landmarks and famous deer adding plenty of charm to the day.

For a solo traveller, these moments can feel especially personal. There is time to pause at a temple, spend a little longer admiring an old street, take photographs, or simply observe the surroundings.

A Day of Kimonos, Sushi and Japanese Traditions

Savitha and her group enjoyed a memorable evening in the heart of Japan

Savitha's final full day in Japan became one of the most hands-on experiences of the trip.

She dressed in a traditional kimono, complete with Japanese styling, and stepped into an experience that allowed her to engage with Japanese culture rather than simply observe it.

The day continued with a sushi-making experience in Namba. Instead of ordering sushi at a restaurant, Savitha got to learn how it was prepared and make it herself. Fresh ingredients, guidance from the instructors and the satisfaction of eating something she had prepared herself made the experience particularly memorable.

Later, she attended a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

The ceremony introduced her to the careful rituals surrounding matcha, from its preparation to the traditional sweets served alongside it. After several days of sightseeing, this slower cultural experience offered a beautiful way to spend her final day in Japan.

The People Behind Savitha’s Dream Japan Trip with Thrillophilia

A solo trip can feel wonderfully independent, yet having the right people handling the arrangements makes the experience even more comfortable.

For Savitha, Rajat Kundani and Devika Sudhir played an important role in bringing the journey together. From arranging the itinerary and transfers to coordinating the different experiences across Tokyo and Osaka, their support helped the trip move smoothly from one destination to another.

Savitha summed up the experience in a few heartfelt words:

“This trip to Japan has been a dream come true for me. I will fondly cherish memories of it forever. My heartfelt gratitude to Rajat & team and Devika Sudhir for organising and managing things so well.”

Eight days gave Savitha a glimpse into many sides of Japan: the energy of Tokyo, the grandeur of Mount Fuji, the charm of Hakone, the atmosphere of Osaka, the heritage of Kyoto and Nara, and the traditions of Japanese cuisine and tea.

For her, the journey became something far more personal than a holiday.

It was a dream finally lived, one experience at a time.
