When Nagaraju looked back on his journey through Bhutan, one experience stood above all others.
The hike to Taktsang Monastery, popularly known as Tiger's Nest, demanded patience, determination, and steady effort. Yet when he and his wife finally reached the monastery perched high on the cliffs of Paro Valley, the feeling that awaited them at the top made every step worthwhile.
As he later shared:
"Our Bhutan trip was truly wonderful. The itinerary was well organised, and both the driver and guide were incredibly helpful throughout the journey, always taking our age and small requests into consideration. The trek to Taktsang Monastery in Paro was challenging, but reaching the top filled us with a great sense of peace and happiness. The hotels in Phuntsholing and Thimphu were excellent, and the guide ensured that vegetarian food was available for us everywhere we travelled. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip. All said and done, it was a wonderful experience."
That feeling of peace became the thread that connected the entire journey.
Over nine days, Nagaraju and his wife travelled through mountain towns, crossed scenic passes draped with prayer flags, explored centuries-old monasteries, and experienced a country that seems to move at a gentler rhythm.
Through the Valleys and Dzongs of Bhutan

Their journey began with a leisurely drive through Mirik before crossing into Bhutan through Phuentsholing. The transition felt gradual and beautiful. Rolling hills, winding roads, and peaceful surroundings introduced them to the landscapes that would accompany them throughout the trip.
As they travelled deeper into Bhutan, the scenery became increasingly captivating. Thimphu welcomed them with its unique blend of culture, tradition, and mountain charm. The National Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong, and local markets offered glimpses into everyday Bhutanese life, while the surrounding mountains created a spectacular backdrop to every experience.
One of the most memorable drives came during their excursion to Punakha.
The journey through Dochula Pass revealed sweeping views of the Himalayas, accompanied by rows of fluttering prayer flags that seemed to stretch endlessly across the mountains. The atmosphere carried a sense of calm that perfectly reflected Bhutan's character.
Further ahead, Punakha showcased some of the country's most iconic landmarks. The magnificent Punakha Dzong stood gracefully at the confluence of two rivers, its traditional architecture blending beautifully with the surrounding landscape. The Punakha Suspension Bridge added a touch of adventure to the day, swaying gently above the river while offering spectacular views of the valley below.
Every destination seemed to reveal a different layer of Bhutan's beauty, creating a journey that felt immersive rather than rushed.
The Path to Tiger's Nest

Among all the experiences they enjoyed, Tiger's Nest became the emotional heart of the trip.
Long before arriving in Bhutan, Nagaraju had seen photographs of the famous monastery perched dramatically on the cliffs above Paro Valley. Like many travellers, he was curious about what it would feel like to stand there in person.
The answer revealed itself gradually along the trail.
The hike wound through forests scented with pine, while colourful prayer flags fluttered gently in the mountain breeze. Every section of the path opened up new views of the valley below, and occasional glimpses of the monastery appeared through the trees, encouraging travellers onwards.
When Nagaraju and his wife finally reached the monastery, the reward extended far beyond the view itself.
The ancient prayer halls, sacred spaces, and breathtaking setting created an atmosphere that felt deeply moving. Standing beside one of Bhutan's most revered landmarks, surrounded by mountains and clouds, brought a feeling of fulfilment that remained with them long after they descended back into the valley.
Among all the memories they carried home from Bhutan, this was the one they spoke about most often.
Why Nagaraju Recommends Thrillophilia for Bhutan
For Nagaraju, a successful journey is shaped as much by the people involved as by the destination itself.
Throughout the trip, both the guide and driver played an important role in ensuring that every day remained comfortable and enjoyable. Their attentiveness, patience, and willingness to accommodate small requests helped create a smooth experience from beginning to end. Vegetarian food was consistently available throughout the journey, allowing the couple to enjoy every destination without worrying about daily logistics.
The accommodations also added greatly to the experience. The hotels in Phuentsholing and Thimphu earned particular praise for their comfort, hospitality, and welcoming atmosphere. Their stay in Paro complemented the experience beautifully, offering a peaceful base from which to explore one of Bhutan's most scenic valleys.
Planned by Muskan Sharma and supported by an attentive on-ground team, the itinerary allowed Nagaraju and his wife to experience Bhutan at a comfortable pace while enjoying many of the country's most celebrated destinations.
Nine days took them through mountain passes, historic dzongs, peaceful monasteries, charming valleys, and unforgettable landscapes. Along the way, they experienced warm hospitality, thoughtful service, and moments of genuine connection with the destination.
