"As a first-time solo traveller, it was really a great experience. I got an awesome group of travellers who were very friendly and helpful. The guide, Sangay, was extremely helpful. The Thrillophilia team was also very helpful. Anshuman and Priyank were really helpful. Mesmerising trip it was indeed. I would love to go with Thrillophilia again."

Travelling alone for the first time can feel like stepping into the unknown. There is excitement in planning the journey and imagining the places ahead, but there is also curiosity about what the experience will actually feel like once the trip begins.

For Debolina, those questions quickly faded into the background. What started as a solo journey through Bhutan soon became a shared experience filled with friendly conversations, memorable sightseeing days, and a group of fellow travellers who made every destination more enjoyable. Over seven days, she explored mountain valleys, historic monasteries, bustling towns, and some of Bhutan's most iconic landmarks, discovering why the country leaves such a lasting impression on those who visit.

Tiger's Nest Monastery Was Every Bit as Incredible as Expected

Among all the places Debolina visited, Tiger's Nest Monastery was undoubtedly one of the most unforgettable. The journey began with a trek through pine forests where colourful prayer flags fluttered in the mountain breeze. With every stretch of the trail, the views became more spectacular, offering glimpses of valleys and distant mountains that seemed to extend endlessly into the horizon.

The first sight of Tiger's Nest itself felt almost surreal. Built into the side of a sheer cliff, the monastery appears suspended above the valley below. As she continued climbing, the structure seemed to reveal itself from different angles, becoming even more impressive the closer she got.

Reaching the monastery brought a sense of achievement, but it was the atmosphere that left the strongest impression. The peaceful surroundings, the spiritual significance of the site, and the dramatic setting combined to create an experience that felt uniquely Bhutanese and unlike anything else on the itinerary.

Punakha's History, Culture, and Stunning Landscapes

A scenic drive through Bhutan's lush pine forests

The journey to Punakha introduced Debolina to some of Bhutan's most spectacular scenery. As the road wound its way through Dochula Pass, panoramic views of the Himalayas stretched across the horizon while colourful prayer flags fluttered in the mountain breeze. The drive itself felt like an experience worth slowing down for, with every turn revealing another layer of valleys and distant peaks.

Upon reaching Punakha, she explored the magnificent Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan's most important cultural landmarks. Situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, the fortress-monastery stood surrounded by natural beauty on all sides. Walking through its courtyards and admiring its intricate Bhutanese architecture offered a glimpse into the country's rich history and traditions.

Later, she crossed the famous Punakha Suspension Bridge, suspended high above the river below. Lined with colourful prayer flags and framed by mountain views, the bridge added a sense of adventure to the day while offering a completely different perspective of the valley. Together, these experiences revealed why Punakha remains one of Bhutan's most beloved destinations.

Thimphu and Paro Revealed Bhutan Beyond the Postcards

Debolina spotted Bhutan's rare takins in their natural habitat

While Bhutan's landscapes left a lasting impression, some of Debolina's most memorable moments came from experiencing the country's culture more closely. In Thimphu, she visited landmarks such as the National Memorial Chorten and the towering Buddha Dordenma, both of which offered insight into the spiritual traditions that continue to shape everyday life in Bhutan.

She also explored the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan's unique national animal, and visited the Royal Textile Museum, where generations of craftsmanship and cultural heritage are carefully preserved. These experiences added context to the country beyond its mountains and monasteries, helping her appreciate the traditions that make Bhutan distinct.

By the time she reached Paro, the pace of the journey felt noticeably calmer. Surrounded by mountains and traditional Bhutanese architecture, the town invited slower exploration. Debolina spent time soaking in the atmosphere, observing local life, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Why Debolina Recommends Thrillophilia for Bhutan

For Debolina, one of the most memorable aspects of the trip was the people she met along the way. As a first-time solo traveller, having a friendly group of fellow travellers transformed the experience and ensured that every day felt engaging and enjoyable.

She also appreciated the support she received throughout the journey. Guide Sangay played an important role in making the experience smooth and informative, while Anshuman Sharma and Priyank remained helpful and supportive whenever needed. Their guidance allowed her to focus entirely on enjoying the destination rather than worrying about arrangements.

By the end of the trip, Debolina returned home with the confidence that comes from completing a solo journey! Which is what Thrillophilia ever really wanted for its travellers!
