“Last minute changes were also accommodated in the diligently planned itinerary covering countries across Australia. Looking forward for more trips.”

Australia is the kind of destination where one day can mean driving along a dramatic coastline, the next can take you thousands of metres above a mountain valley, and a few days later you could be floating above the Great Barrier Reef.

That was exactly the kind of variety Arun Pandit’s 15-day Australian holiday packed in.

The journey moved across Melbourne, Cairns, Gold Coast and Sydney, with plenty of room for road trips, wildlife, adventure, sightseeing and a few experiences that were anything but ordinary. There was a self-drive along the Great Ocean Road, a hot-air balloon ride over Yarra Valley, a day at Mount Buller, a full-day Great Barrier Reef experience, theme parks on the Gold Coast and Sydney Harbour evenings.

And because a 15-day trip rarely goes exactly according to plan, there were changes along the way too. Arun’s review specifically highlights that even last-minute changes could be accommodated while keeping the larger itinerary on track.

Here are some of the biggest highlights from the trip.

Melbourne Began With Stadium Views and a Road Trip to Remember

Arun’s cable car adventure was a memorable ride through breathtaking mountain views

The trip started in Melbourne, but the family did not spend too long warming up to the city.

One of the first stops was the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where Arun explored the famous sporting venue and its memorabilia. Later, the Eureka Skydeck offered an entirely different perspective, taking the sightseeing from the ground to the top of one of Melbourne’s tallest buildings.

But Melbourne was really the starting point for something much bigger.

The next day, Arun picked up the SUV and set off along the Great Ocean Road, one of Australia's most famous road trips. The route brought together rugged coastline, ocean views and some of the country's most photographed natural landmarks.

The Twelve Apostles were the obvious showstopper, with enormous limestone stacks rising from the Southern Ocean. The drive also included Gibson Steps, Loch Ard Gorge and Apollo Bay, turning what could have been a regular sightseeing day into an entire coastal adventure.

Then came another change of scenery at Yarra Valley, where the morning began in a rather unusual way.

Instead of simply driving through the vineyards, Arun took a hot-air balloon ride over the valley. From above, the patchwork of vineyards and countryside stretched out below before the day continued with breakfast and wine tasting.

And just when the itinerary seemed to be settling into a rhythm, Mount Buller brought another completely different landscape. The full-day drive into the mountains added a high-altitude escape to the Melbourne leg before Arun returned to the city.

From the Great Barrier Reef to the Gold Coast

Arun’s underwater adventure captured the beauty of marine life beneath the waves

A flight to Cairns shifted the trip from Australia's southern landscapes to its tropical north.

After checking in, there was time to explore the Cairns Esplanade before the biggest experience of the stop arrived the following day.

The Great Barrier Reef was an entire day of being out on the water. The cruise included opportunities for snorkelling and diving, along with guided reef experiences and a buffet lunch. After spending the previous days surrounded by mountains, roads and vineyards, Arun was suddenly exploring one of the world's most famous marine ecosystems.

From Cairns, the journey moved south towards the Gold Coast.

Here, the focus shifted firmly towards wildlife and entertainment. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary offered the chance to see Australia's distinctive native animals, while the following day was reserved for Sea World. The full-day visit meant plenty of time for the park's attractions and shows, including its seal and dolphin presentations.

It was a very different side of Australia from the Great Ocean Road and Great Barrier Reef, and that contrast was one of the strengths of the itinerary.

Sydney Saved the Big Finish for the Harbour

The final stretch of the trip brought Arun to Sydney, where the itinerary became a mix of iconic landmarks, wildlife, cruises and free time.

The Sydney Opera House was an obvious stop, but the sightseeing did not end there. Arun also explored the Sydney Harbour Bridge and spent time discovering the city at his own pace. There was even a whale-watching cruise, adding another opportunity to see Australia's marine life.

The Blue Mountains provided another full-day escape from the city. The trip also included Sydney Zoo, where Arun could get closer to Australia's wildlife and even take part in kangaroo feeding.

Then Sydney Harbour got its turn after dark.

A Sydney night dinner cruise combined a three-course dinner with views of the illuminated harbour, giving Arun a completely different way to see the city. With the Opera House and Harbour Bridge forming the backdrop, it was the sort of evening that naturally belonged towards the end of a long Australian adventure.

There was still time for one more round of sightseeing before departure. Taronga Zoo filled the morning, followed by Bondi Beach and its famous coastal stretch. After two weeks of road trips, flights, wildlife, beaches, mountains and reef adventures, the final day was reserved for the journey home.

Why Arun’s Australia Trip Stands Out

What makes this itinerary interesting is how little it relied on just one type of experience.

It moved from a self-drive along the Great Ocean Road to a hot-air balloon above Yarra Valley, from snow-country landscapes around Mount Buller to the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Then came Gold Coast theme parks, Sydney's harbour and the Blue Mountains.

There was plenty of structure, but Arun also had the flexibility to make changes when plans shifted. His review specifically appreciates that last-minute changes were accommodated, something that can make a major difference on a long international holiday.

The trip was planned with the help of Vasudev Ubana, Thrillophilia’s Australia destination expert, bringing together multiple cities, internal flights, road journeys, activities and transfers into one 15-day holiday.

And perhaps the best sign that the trip worked is Arun's final line.

“Looking forward for more trips.”

After 15 days across Australia's coastlines, cities, mountains, reefs and wildlife parks, that sounds like a pretty good reason to start thinking about the next one.
