Savandurga hill is well known to be one of the first monolith hills of the world. It lies 33 km to the west of Bangalore, off the Magadi Road. The hill makes up a part of the Deccan Plateau and rises to 1226 m above the sea level. Peninsular rocks, laterites, granites, make up this hill. This monolithic rock is frequented by trekkers on weekends. It is an ideal place for one day team outings near bangalore.
The gorgeous Arkavathi River glides through the Thippagondanahalli reservoir and embraces the Manchanbele dam going forward. There is a temple dedicated to Sri Veerabhadraswamy located at the start of the mountain. Every year there is a large number of devotees coming here. The fort located on top of this hill is worth a tricky climb. There is another temple near the fort which is dedicated to Sri Basaveswara and Sri Narasimhaswamy.
