Kuala Lumpur

The Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary is an old sanctuary that was established in the year 1989 by the Malaysian Department of Wildlife and National Parks. It is located within the Krau Game Reserve, in Temerloh, in the state of Pahang and is an hour and a half to a two-hour long drive from the Kuala Lumpur city center. An Elephant Relocation Team at the sanctuary that has been active since 1974 is responsible for rescuing Asian elephants whose habitats have been destroyed by rapid industrialization and urbanization. These elephants are brought to the reserve, taken care of and then relocated to suitable habitats. The sanctuary is also responsible for creating public awareness towards the vanishing habitats and also supports research into the field. Through tourism, the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary has been doing just that by opening its doors to people. The Kuala Gandah elephants were earlier used for elephant riding but the practice was abandoned and now the rangers acquaint the tourists and elephants through elephant baths.Highlights of the tour: You will get an opportunity to take the elephants down to the river and help give them a bath. Also, you will get a chance to feed the elephants. There will be a documentary video show on an elephant that you watch and enjoy during your tour. Time Duration: 8 Hours
