Camel Trekking or Caravan with camels has been a vogue for Ladakh quest since Seventeenth century until partition was done in the year of 1947. Camel Traveling is predominantly evident in Nubra Area from Hundar up to the Diskit .Bactrian camels, along with dual humps, are basically also recognized as the 'Real Camel'. The offspring of those camels were used for riding and transportation in the 'Silk Route' in the consecutive centuries of 17th, 18th and 19th.
The most distinctive feature of the Bactrian camel is its two humps. These humps, contrary to popular belief, are designed to store fat and not water. Bactrian camels are classified as herbivores. They prefer vegetation that is prickly, dry, salty, and/or bitter. However, when food is scarce they will eat bones, and various types of animal flesh.
This trip involves three days of seeing in the desert from over a camel.

The activity takes place in the celestial like location of Ladakh. As if painted in a dream, the terrain here enchants with a black and white landscape laced with grey and blue.
When the winter begins in Ladakh, the gushing Zanskar River that makes its way through the remote canyons congeals into a sheet of ice (hence the name Chadar which means blanket). This is when the brazen set off on what is considered as the toughest and most adventurous trek that entails weathering harsh conditions and bearing templates that can dip to 25 to -35 degrees.
Shielded in snow-capped peaks and clustered among two small alpine lakes, Zanskar is an ethereal place in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to dense snowfall in the winter times, the road to the valley gets shut and the only way to get across is the frozen river.
The Amazing Zanskar Chadar Trek opens up many delights along the way. Pass through frozen waterfalls, explore the charming Nyerak Village, make way through deep gorges and sleep in caves beside the frozen river.

This encompasses a plethora of jaw-dropping sights alongside the gorgeous ravines and canyons of Ladakh that serves as the only means of communication between the hamlets of Zanskar Valley and Chilling.
Trekking in Chadar is laden with a bunch of unique experiences that include walking on the Zanskar frozen River which is literally a sheet of ice with glacial waters running underneath and camping out in inhospitable conditions inside caves. The journey of Zanskar Chadar trek takes one through beautiful sightings of hanging icicles, breathtaking iced-peaks set against turquoise skies and charming Tibetan prayer flags. In some areas, the ‘Chadar’ or ice sheet forms only on the corners of the Zanskar River that become narrow ledges through which trekkers cross by crawling under dangerous overhang rocks. At times, the Chadar even breaks right under one’s feet and floats away like a raft. The Chadar frozen river trek is open only during winter when the ice sheet is most stable.
