The Hesaraghatta Lake is a freshwater manmade lake created to provide drinking water to the city of Bangalore. It is located about 18-20km to the north-west region of the Garden City. However, today, the lake is more famous for the scenic beauty and the opportunity that it provides for bird-watching. At least 29 species of migratory water birds have been reported here.
Also located nearby is the first modern Gurukul of India, Nrityagram. It is the hub for an internationally acclaimed event called Vasant Habba where musical and dance recitals are performed. The months of December to February are the best time to see this region in its full glory through cycling in Bangalore.
