Situated in Idukki, Chinnar Valley is the only rain shadow of the Western Ghats of Kerala. The river originates in Anaimudi hills, and it flows east. The valley was at first a small village as old as 9000 BC. The remnants of this place are found in form of megalithic burials, Cave temples etc. Today more than half of this place is a part of wildlife sanctuary. It is a tourist attraction and houses several rare flora and fauna. Tourists involve in Trekking activities here.
The Trekking route passes through the 80 sq km Chinnar valley, full of cactus groves and thick deep shrubs bordering the entire place. The disdainful hills of the Western Ghats guard the valley as boundary walls.
You can spot a rich varied fauna here. Be prepared to spot wild gaurs, sambar, spotted deer, wild dogs, civets, elephants, slender loris and many other mammals and reptiles. Also stop by at waterfalls and rivers during the day to enjoy the nature at its best.
