Backpack and head to Belgaum on an overnight guided trekking trip, which shares two well-kept secrets in this part of Karnataka – Shimbola and Phanaswadi Waterfalls. Both waterfall treks take you through a trail of around 12km (to & fro) that would be for around 6 hours. Quaint, yet illustrious waterfalls, they have a perfect setting – the heart of the Western Ghats near Chorla. Shimbola Falls fed by Shimoli stream takes you through deep valleys, dense jungles, and mysterious surroundings. While trek to Phanaswadi Falls has some steep ascends and descends making you cross the borders of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

On the first day, you’ll be transferred from your hotel in Belgaum around 7am to the campsite in Kankumbi. Your waterfall trek of about 5 hours will start from Maan Village (8km) after breakfast. The trek is marked by boulder hopping, crossing offbeat trails, and roughing it out. At the end of three hours, when you’ve had your packed lunch on the way, you’re face-to-face with Phanaswadi Falls. A favourite among trekkers, a chill shower at the end of the falls is enticing and cleansing. Head back to Kankumbi, retire in your tented accommodation or lose yourself around a bonfire.

Next morning is a relaxed start. Around 10am, head back to Maan Village to explore the newest waterfall on the block – Shimbola Falls. This is a circular trek on a gradual terrain leading to a steep descend to the waterfall. Way back it’s an ascent. You can have packed lunch on the way or eat at the campsite. Head to Kankumbi, from where you will be transported to Belgaum after refreshments in the evenings.

Delight in a waterfall trek involving crossing state borders of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Discover the Phanaswadi Waterfalls. Go over steep ascends and equally inclined descends, through the green thickets of Kankumbi forests in the Sahayadri ranges. A total trek distance of 12km over 6 hours creates a magical escapade ending at the waterfall, which is widely known for providing chilled showers if you go close below.

The guided trek begins with regular procedures of hotel transfer around 7am to Kankumbi campsite. Have your fill of a wholesome breakfast as you prepare for your action-packed day. Around 10am, a short drive takes you to Maan Village, from where you’ll start your trek. The trail lives up to its promise of thrills and chills evident in the surroundings. Since access to the falls is only from Belgaum in Karnataka, you will cross the border to reach the falls located in Sindhudurg District of Maharashtra. Have packed lunch on the way.

But of course, the best part of your trek is the Phanaswadi Waterfall. Spend some time in the cool water relishing the tranquillity and peace around. Head back to Mann Village and reach Kankumbi campsite by 6pm. After a quick round of refreshments, you’ll be dropped back to your accommodation in Belgaum.
