To study and conserve these wonders of nature, the first ever butterfly park in India is set up at the Bannerghatta National Park. The Bannerghatta Butterfly Park is an integrated center which greatly supports education, conservation and research activities.

Description:

Spread over an area of 7.5 acres with a butterfly trail of about a kilometer length, it is divided as a butterfly garden, a conservatory with a polycarbonate roof and a research and captive breeding laboratory. The landscaped garden and the man made waterfall creates a natural habitat for these insects.The thirty species of butterflies belonging to five families are: Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae, Lycaenidae and Hesperiidae. However one study reported 48 species of butterflies in various seasons here.

Bannerghatta Butterfly Park located about 22 kms from Bangalore, adjacent to the Bannerghatta National Park and is open on almost everyday. It is easily accessible by bus and other private transport. Gokarna, a small temple town located in the Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka, is home to several unspoiled beaches. Situated around 8 kms away from the town is the pristine Om Beach, named so because its shape resembles the Hindu religious symbol. Leave from Indiranagar, Bangalore around 6 am and reach the base of Nandi Hills, an ancient fortress of Southern India by 6.45 am. Revel in an overnight camping and adventure filled experience at untamed Dandeli.  The guided tour starts early in the morning around 7 am when you are driven from Dandeli to Ganeshgudi for an hour of bird watching. An expert naturalist guides you through the vegetation where over 350 species of birds reside. After a short interval for breakfast, the rest of the morning would be reserved for mountain biking on bikes specially adapted for the landscape. Enjoy riding through rough and bumpy paths. This would be followed by an hour of lunch and then would begin the enlivening surfing session in the River Kali.

After the invigorating session in the river water, the trek through the thick evergreen foliage of the nearby jungle with a guide well-versed with the route comes next. Delight in an adventure packed day along the gushing waters of River Kali. The close to 9-10 hour rafting expedition begins in the morning around 9 am, when you are picked up from Dandeli for an hour long drive to the River Kali. Once there, you are briefed about the techniques and safety measures by a professional guide who also kits you up with life jackets and helmets. The next hour or so is spent in indulging in the stimulating and exciting activity of paddling your raft in the swiftly swirling waters of the river. With rapids ranging from grade 2 to 3, the 12 km rafting route on the Kali River is fairly placid and is ideal for even inexperienced rafters.
