The Roopkund trek is an invigorating expedition from the high altitude region of Loharjung, in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at 3200m, to the ‘Skeletal Lake’ of Roopkund shadowed by the mighty peak of Trishul standing tall at 5000m. Bond as a group and use your creativity to come up with solutions to the various problems. The team that can tackle all the obstacles and survive will be heralded as the winning team.

In this activity, each group will be divided into different tribes.  You and your team will have to present some innovative ideas and choose your own tribal name, jingle and dance. All of this has to be unique to garner good points.

Get into the tribal zone with props of sticks and leaves. There are several adventurous tasks at hand. Provide for your tribe with the theme of collecting water. The catch is that you and your team will be given a basket with many holes and will have to use leaves to cover it up. Manage the whole thing in such a way that the water does not leak. Either that or you would have to collect water with a bamboo stick. Other activities include starting a fire using old techniques and hunting for food with a game of archery. You will also have to find shelter and build it with the materials that are provided. Engage in Scavenger Hunt where the utensils will be hidden across. You and your group will have to scout for them. Somewhere along the way, a lion is on the prowl and you have to undertake Jumaring (rope climbing activity). Also, one of your tribesmen is injured. The team has to make a stretcher with what is provided and will have to carry him back on top of it.

Tips for Chadar Trek:

1) Prepare your mind first: This is a difficult trek that comes with a lot of extremities. From the weather to physical requirement. Train your mind to expect and accept the sub-zero level. Do bear in mind that there is a life that exists there as well; for centuries Chadar is used as the only way to commute to Leh during winters. Your mental strength will signal your body to withstand the cold climb.

2) Be Warm: Next is to keep oneself warm as the temperature falls severely on this trek. To keep going and not be deterred by the weather conditions, use 4 layers for the Torso that includes a jacket and a wind sheeter which is waterproof and has a fleece lining. For the bottom, a base layer, thermal underpants and waterproof pants with a fleece lining should suffice. Make sure your fleece and jackets have zips down the front so that you can unzip them as the day grows progressively warmer.

3) Keep a woolen cap and gloves (a must): Essentially you need to sleep well during the night to keep you fresh for the next day of the trek. Keep an insulating water bottle to keep your sleeping bag warm during the night. Use Silk liner inside your bags to keep it warm enough.

4) Footwear: Hiking shoes + Gumboots At occasions, trekking on the Chadar involves wading through knee-deep cold water. Though hiking shoes are highly recommended, gumboots help keep your shoes and feet secure from the icy cold water. It is practically impossible to dry anything at Zanskar trek in Ladakh, so gumboots are a compulsory and crucial addition to the footwear.

5) Expect sweet pain: The Chadar is a glossy, slippery sheet of ice and will never let you walk carelessly. But no matter how careful one is, everyone falls and slips more than once on the Chadar. If you fall, just get back up by rolling on your knees and keep walking with confidence. Gumboots might give you shoe bites, but you’ll get used to it as you walk.

6) Observe and keep moving: The locals can give you firsthand training on how to cross the lake on your foot. On closer observation, you would notice that they walk fast and take Penguin like strides on the ice. As you watch them, you will learn their ways of maneuvering around on the ice blanket and learn when it is wiser to wait than to carry on or the reverse.

7) Keep your electronics warm: Extreme cold climate can ruin electronics. Hence keep them warm by keeping them safe by tucking them into your pockets closer to your body it will keep them warm and long-lasting.

8) Protect your fingers and toes: In sub-zero temperatures, fingers and toes are the most exposed and can be frozen resulting in bad pain when camping. Carry waterproof woolen socks and gloves. An extra pair of socks would help as they gather moisture while wearing gumboots.

9) Warming pads: Warming pads are very helpful for those who feel cold sooner than others. These are exothermic pads to be slipped in your gloves and socks. They release heat and keep you warm for up to 10 hours.

En route, visit the Shiva temple, take a breather for some time, and indulge in lunch.

Feel light as a feather and float in mid-air as you go parasailing at the fetching Payyambalam Beach. The pristine beauty that abounds, further adds to the experience. 

The activity of 5 minutes can be undertaken anytime between 10am and 5pm. Also known as parascending or parakiting, parasailing mainly involves the necessary gear, a parasailing wing and a motor vehicle. You will be made to wear a harness that is attached to a parachute at one end and a strong rope at the other. One end of the rope is tied to a motor vehicle, which tugs at a high speed making you soar into the air.

The rope which is usually 300 feet in length propels you to 300 feet in the air. The activity is extremely exciting as you gain height and get a panoramic view of the surroundings. Your next stop will take you to Thindi Beedi’s very own fusion food invention-Gobi Manchurian roll-steaming hot manchuri inside a roomali roti.

While we wait patiently to try some ubiquitous South Indian dishes at Ramu’s Ghee Masala Dosa, Lemon Bath Masala Dosa & Akki Rotis, we can also munch on some hot bhajjis and bondas. Rasagulla Chat is next on our list and please don’t let the name fool you- it is undoubtedly a savoury chat and it is best enjoyed with some Chat Pepsi.  Malpua with Rabdi is another interesting concoction popular here and definitely will be savoured on our trail. Fresh Puran Poli and Coconut Holige have to be tried here and will be our next stop on the trail. Make way for some spicy Mango Corn Masala to break the sweet spell. Butterflies which are one of the most colorful and fascinating creatures of the insect kingdom are one of the greatest attractions of  Bannerghatta Butterfly park. Although Bangalore is known as the IT capital, on the outskirts of Bangalore lies the wonderful world the wild creatures along with the pretty butterflies. 

Butterflies which are called the ‘Flying Jewels’ are delicate, beautiful and fascinating creatures. To study and conserve these wonders of nature, the first ever butterfly park in India is set up at the Bannerghatta National Park. The Bannerghatta Butterfly Park is an integrated center which greatly supports education, conservation and research activities.

Description:

Spread over an area of 7.5 acres with a butterfly trail of about a kilometer length, it is divided as a butterfly garden, a conservatory with a polycarbonate roof and a research and captive breeding laboratory. The landscaped garden and the man made waterfall creates a natural habitat for these insects.The thirty species of butterflies belonging to five families are: Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae, Lycaenidae and Hesperiidae. However one study reported 48 species of butterflies in various seasons here.

Bannerghatta Butterfly Park located about 22 kms from Bangalore, adjacent to the Bannerghatta National Park and is open on almost everyday. It is easily accessible by bus and other private transport. A day spent at the butterfly park is an excellent opportunity to get out of the routine city life; to learn and witness these colorful creations of nature.

Located 8km from Gokarna, the Om Beach is an ideal destination for a beach vacation. The quaint shoreline around this sandy retreat is fringed with coconut groves and showcases picturesque settings. Clear water, favourable wind and other conditions make it one of the best places to enjoy several water activities like banana boat rides, jet skiing and parasailing. Amongst all these activities, banana boat rides are known to be the most trending.

The boat rides can be undertaken anytime between 10:00 am – 04:00 pm. In this activity an inflatable boat resembling the shape of a banana is dragged by a speed boat that carries passengers into the sea. Slowly at a deeper point, the inflatable boat is tipped pushing the passengers into the sea to gently float by. Within the 15 minutes of these jolly rides, you can explore and experience the enthralling waves in anew ways. For the safety of all passengers, swimmers and divers are roped in to supervise the activity at the beach. Lifejackets are mandatory while enjoying any water sport activity.

Upon your arrival at the beachside, attend the briefing session by expert guides and know more about the rides. Be seated on the bumper boat that will be attached to the speed boat. As the expert takes you into the water, enjoy the bumping into the waves.

Gokarna, a small temple town located in the Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka, is home to several unspoiled beaches. Situated around 8 kms away from the town is the pristine Om Beach, named so because its shape resembles the Hindu religious symbol. Blessed with tropical weather, the area has plenty of palm trees dotting its coastline. Its azure waters are ideal for an exciting dolphin spotting trip.

Organised between 10 am and 3 pm, the guided session lasts between half-hour to an hour depending on the water currents. You will be taken by boat to areas in the ocean which have abundant Humpback dolphin population. Dolphins are said to be wary of noises and strangers in their territory. However, once you manage to spot them flitting in and out of the ocean waters, and click some pictures, the thrill you will experience is unlike any other.

The fun starts around 10am with your arrival followed by a briefing session at the beach. Post this, gear up with life jackets and hop into one of the Jet Skis. For about 10 - 15 minutes of frolic rides, ride over the azure water and curate some everlasting memories.

Celebrate a trip to Murdeshwar Beach. Situated in the Uttar Kannada region, it is known for its gigantic statue of Lord Shiva. Along the coast of the Arabian Sea, this place is blessed with natural beauty and scenic splendour.

Reach the misty peak and camp near Mantapa. The next morning, you descend from the peak around 7am and relish in lunch at Bhattra Mane. Return to Kukke by around 6pm. Freshen up in a Kukke hotel.
