Located in the popular tourist destination Alibaug, Sagargad is a blissful trekking destination that offers a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea from the top. As the name goes, Sagar which means Sea and Gad which means Fort,  this place is a perfect trekking destination for both mountain and sea lovers.

This fort is said to exist since the Satvahan dynasty. Shivaji Maharaj won this fort from Adilshah in 1660. Sagargad was one of the forts that were handed over to the Mughals in the Treaty of Purandar. But Shivaji won it back when he escaped from Agra in 1665. Eventually, the possession of this fort was with the British who during the 1880s, built retreat homes for their officers at this scenic spot.

Both beginners and avid trekkers would love Sagargad trek due to the picturesque and mesmerizing beauty of the location.  From Khandale village, a few hours of ascending across various waterfalls will take you to the summit. As you reach this gigantic plateau and spend awesome time up there, you’ll enjoy the breeze during monsoons. This hill fort commands a steering view of the entire Alibaug region. Along with the river and waterfall, this location also holds the Siddheshwar Temple. The trek is medium graded and takes an estimated time of 3.5 hours from the base village to the top.

Your journey for the trek to Sagargad starts by meeting your fellow trekkers with your expert guide at Khandale village by 9:00 AM. Post an energizing breakfast you start your ascend. • Loose yourself  in the beautiful views of the sunset accompanied by artists playing a tiny gig at the beach. Then walk your way back to the campsite.
• Come back to the camp-site at 08:00 PM to make your own barbecue and get to know fellow travelers followed by a band peformence under the moonlit sky.
• Enjoy the locally prepared dinner at 11:00 PM and camp overnight in your tent under the blanket of stars.
• Start your day with a refreshing breakfast with tea at 07:00 AM and get ready to visit the majestic fort of Murud Janjira.
• Hop into a motor boat and cruise to the fort, once you reached, marvel the ancient architecture and learn its history.
• Then take a ride back to the campsite to freshen up and depart from the campsite at 09:30 AM.
