Ladakh and Zanskar form the western edge of the Tibetan plateau and are popularly known as the Little Tibet due to the similarity of the culture and the high altitude desert landscape. Politically, this region forms a part of India, though the religious head is still the Dalai Lama.

This trek goes into the hidden kingdom of Zanskar. The trek offers close encounters with Zanskari life, passing interesting villages with their little gompas on practically every day of the trek. The route also takes in eight high passes and, depending on the time of the year, up to a dozen river crossings including the Zanskar river.

Lamayuru is a beautiful place. The flora and fauna is also similar to Tibet and is quite distinct from the rest of the Himalayas. The region, being beyond the reach of the monsoon, is dry with sparse vegetation. Willow groves and poplars are found near villages. Bushes of eidelberry, wild strawberry and sage brush are also common. The fauna includes marmots, blue sheep and ibex and an occasional snow leopard, besides many birds of prey.

Rumbuk is a Beautiful village which lies in the route of Stok Kangri. As one approaches Rumbak fields the valley suddenly opens up with snowcapped mountains in the background which is a great place to view Ladakh flora and fauna. Some of the prized sightings would be Blue sheep, the Great Tibetan sheep or the Argali, various mountain and migratory birds, high altitude flora and occasionally a Tibetan Wolf or a Snow leopard if extremely lucky.

During this trek one also gets to tread through the Stok La pass (4900 M) which commands great views of the Indus valley. En route one can visit the Stok Palace museum which houses rare collections of Ladakhi rulers.

This trek is the part of the Markha Valley Trek - a well known trek famous for wild animals. In fact a documentary made on Snow Leopards which eventually won a lot of appreciation and awards was shot in the same valley. It is a perfect moderately difficult trek for the weekend traveler. Low on time and still intend to get a flavor of Ladakh, this is the place.

North of the Great Himalayan Treks, amongst a tangled knot of jagged mountains, lies a rugged and fascinating land, the once independent kingdom of Zanskar. Sandwiched between the Indus Valley and the main crest of the Indian Himalayas, this remote and inaccessible setting, well guarded by snowy mountain passes, has kept alive an archaic form of Tibetan Buddhism which flourishes in chains of far-flung monasteries, most of which occupy spectacular fortified locations, high on rocky ridges in isolated valleys.

Lovely high meadow camp sites and dry desert lands, high passes and snow-capped peaks, stunning scenery, Buddhist monasteries and picturesque villages with their irrigated fields of barley and potatoes, and fascinating encounters with the Zanskari people turn a trek in this area into an unforgettable experience. The 14 days trip promises this and much more. Come see the heaven on earth with us.

Lamayuru to Rupsho Trek has a very interesting route beginning at the famous Lamayuru monastery; you walk up the less travelled Ripchar Valley with its small villages, nomadic settlements and pastures where you see a wide variety of flowers and many species of birds from the end of July to end of August.

In this Ladakh trek we will cross from some of the high passes with excellent views of the Karakorams and the Zanskar mountains. The initial part of the trek ends at Chilling, a small village and the only one where Ladakhi metal work is carried out. From Chilling, we cross the river by a cable pulley. A different set of ponies are on the other side of the river to carry our gear. We then continue on to Markha Valley - considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Ladakh.

Here, we pass through several Ladakhi settlements and observe their lifestyle. Several river crossings are involved, but these are not dangerous. Crossing several more passes, through gorges and wide open pastures, we end the trek at Matho village. Here we visit the monastery built on a hill between Stok and Stakna, the only monastery belongs to the Sakyapa order. It is worth visiting this monastery also for the beautiful view that it offers of the valley. Another popular trek is the Parang la trek.

Ladakh occupies a very strategic position in Asia, presenting itself as a frontier province of India where three international borders meet. In the past some of the busiest trade routes of central Asia crisscrossed here. Two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges: The Karakoram and the Great Himalayas surround it in the north and south respectively. Geographically it is the northwestern extension of high and dry Tibetan plateau.

Consequently, rainfall is scanty and the general terrestrial features of the area are dry and deserted. Ladakh has kept alive the dwindling Tibetan cultural heritage. Thousands of religious and cultural monuments in the form of monasteries, nunneries and hermitages dot its arid terrain. It is in Ladakh alone one can savor the variety and beauty of unique and self-contained Himalayan Civilization.

Stok Kangri is a perfect destination for climbers wishing to climb above 6000 mts. You can always have a view of this beautiful peak from Leh town. Once you are at the summit you can see the amazing views of the Saser Kangri (7670mts) in the Karakoram Range, Kang Yatse (6400mts.) and Nun Kun (7135mts)

We recommend this. It gives you an added rest day at Srinagar or even better if you are able to head towards Sonamarg.

There are two options.

Option 1:
Fly directly to Srinagar.

You can travel to Sonamarg if you land at Srinagar before 12 noon.

How to reach Sonamarg? – From the airport, walk outside for 800 meters to take an auto to TRC. Auto will cost you around Rs 250 which is a good rate to pay. They might ask for Rs 300. Take a cab if you are travelling in a group. A taxi/cab will cost Rs 600 to Rs 750.

From TRC, you will get Swaraj Mazda buses frequently going to Soura which is 8 kms away. It takes about 40 mins to reach here and costs Rs 15. If you choose an auto, it will cost around Rs 150 to Rs 200.

From Soura, you get buses to Kangan which is about Rs 40. Again from Kangan, you need to change and take shared cabs to Sonamarg. This will cost around Rs 70 to Rs 150 depending on the number of travellers. If you get shared cabs directly from Soura to Shitkadi, it will cost Rs 300 to Rs 450.

Note: Srinagar Airport to Srinagar TRC, you do have the bus service. However, they are not reliable. They do not move until they are half full.

Option 2:

Taking a train/bus to Jammu and reach Srinagar

If you are taking a bus to Jammu, then you have multiple options to take. There are two gates outside Jammu ISBT. You will get shared cabs from both these gates.

If you are reaching the Railway Station, the share cabs to Srinagar will cost between Rs 700 to Rs 1000.

Kashmir is universally acknowledged as “paradise on earth” and is the host to most picturesque treks in the Himalayas, and Tarsar Marsar Trek is among them.

Tarsar Marsar Trek is a stunning trek with three alpine lakes- Tarsar, Marsar and Sundarsar which mesmerize one with their beauty. Apart from these three lakes, one will find it full of exquisite meadows of Kashmir, splendid Chinar tree forest and Lidder river, a glacial river that originates from the Kolahoi Glacier.

All the campsites on this trek are beside Lidder river or alpine lakes on meadows. This, by itself, is a rarity. Your tent flaps open to the view of glittering blue waters of the lakes. Throughout the day, you see the snow-fed lake change colours as the sun’s angle changes. The sunrises and sunsets over the lake, the precious silence of just sitting beside the lake — these are experiences you don’t get anywhere else. An experience to camp in such settings is what makes this trek special.

The Tarsar Marsar trek is not only for experienced trekkers but for amateurs, children, families, and school groups. This trek is mostly close to the tree line with an easy trail, which makes it suitable for everyone.
As a part of daily hygiene protocol, proper care of hygiene and sanitation is maintained all through to ensure utmost care and personal safety of the guests.
