About the destination:
Street food is almost akin to culture in India, and the places most famous for it are usually Delhi and Bombay. But Bangalore has its own street food culture which has its own set of loyalists. There is a particular street, Thindi Beedi in V.V Puram which is synonymous with food heaven in Bangalore. A pure dreamland for any street-food lover, this long aromatic street is an absolute gastronomic fairyland. Over 20 food stalls spread over less than 150 m here serve a variety of South Indian, North Indian and Chinese delicacies.
About the Activity:
This paradisiac avenue is flanked throughout its length by food carts or thelas where men conjure up ambrosial delights in a matter of minutes, ably aided by their helpers who toss out the sizzling delicacies onto the plates of impatiently waiting swarms of customers. In this food walk you will be taken to the best stalls and relish amazing delicacies that are tried and tested by the guides.
Description:
Start the walk from the legendary VB Bakery at around 6pm and sample their mouth-watering honey-cakes, cream puffs, apple cakes and congress buns. From here we walk down the street, braving the other excited foodies to start with some piping hot Jalebi’s. Your next stop will take you to Thindi Beedi’s very own fusion food invention-Gobi Manchurian roll-steaming hot manchuri inside a roomali roti.
While we wait patiently to try some ubiquitous South Indian dishes at Ramu’s Ghee Masala Dosa, Lemon Bath Masala Dosa & Akki Rotis, we can also munch on some hot bhajjis and bondas. Rasagulla Chat is next on our list and please don’t let the name fool you- it is undoubtedly a savoury chat and it is best enjoyed with some Chat Pepsi. Malpua with Rabdi is another interesting concoction popular here and definitely will be savoured on our trail. Fresh Puran Poli and Coconut Holige have to be tried here and will be our next stop on the trail. Make way for some spicy Mango Corn Masala to break the sweet spell. And finally not to be missed is Shivanna’s Gulkand with Ice cream and freshly cut fruits, our last stop for the night.
