Ladakh and Zanskar form the western edge of the Tibetan plateau and are popularly known as the "Little Tibet" due to the similarity of the culture and the high altitude desert landscape. Politically, this region forms a part of India, though the religious head is still the Dalai Lama."

This trek goes into the hidden kingdom of Zanskar. The trek offers close encounters with Zanskari life, passing interesting villages with their little gompas on practically every day of the trek. The route also takes in eight high passes and, depending on the time of the year, up to a dozen river crossings including the Zanskar river.

Lamayuru is a beautiful place. The flora and fauna is also similar to Tibet and is quite distinct from the rest of the Himalayas. The region, being beyond the reach of the monsoon, is dry with sparse vegetation. Willow groves and poplars are found near villages. Bushes of eidelberry, wild strawberry and sage brush are also common. The fauna includes marmots, blue sheep and ibex and an occasional snow leopard, besides many birds of prey.

Chumathang is well known for its springs. It has medical importance but the use of water here is also done to wash clothes. The Chumathang village is not very far from the springs and a small monastery nearby can be a good place to explore.

After 5 hours we arrive at Gangra. Next stop is Sumdo that takes 4 hours. Sumdo is where three valleys merge together. It is a sight to behold and surely a place to pitch up tents for the day.

From Sumdo we leave for Phayalung. It takes about 8 hours for the trek to complete. Climb to Choku La is pretty tough hence we start early in the morning. From Phayalung we trek to Yayatso. Rumbuk is a Beautiful village which lies in the route of Stok Kangri. As one approaches Rumbak fields the valley suddenly opens up with snowcapped mountains in the background which is a great place to view Ladakh flora and fauna. Some of the prized sightings would be Blue sheep, the Great Tibetan sheep or the Argali, various mountain and migratory birds, high altitude flora and occasionally a Tibetan Wolf or a Snow leopard if extremely lucky.

During this trek one also gets to tread through the Stok La pass (4900 M) which commands great views of the Indus valley. En route one can visit the Stok Palace museum which houses rare collections of Ladakhi rulers.

This trek is the part of the Markha Valley Trek - a well known trek famous for wild animals. In fact a documentary made on Snow Leopards which eventually won a lot of appreciation and awards was shot in the same valley. It is a perfect moderately difficult trek for the weekend traveler. In this Ladakh trek we will cross from some of the high passes with excellent views of the Karakorams and the Zanskar mountains. The initial part of the trek ends at Chilling, a small village and the only one where Ladakhi metal work is carried out. From Chilling, we cross the river by a cable pulley. A different set of ponies are on the other side of the river to carry our gear. We then continue on to Markha Valley - considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Ladakh.

Here, we pass through several Ladakhi settlements and observe their lifestyle. Several river crossings are involved, but these are not dangerous. Crossing several more passes, through gorges and wide open pastures, we end the trek at Matho village. Here we visit the monastery built on a hill between Stok and Stakna, the only monastery belongs to the Sakyapa order. It is worth visiting this monastery also for the beautiful view that it offers of the valley. Another popular trek is the Parang la trek.

This thrilling trek would begin at the renowned Lamayuru Monastery and take you through the uncharged Ripchar Valley, touch several smaller villages, exploring the lush pastures and nomadic inhabitants. You can also see many local species of lowers and birds, especially if you visit between July and August.

Cross over a few high passes that offer stunning views of the Zanskar and Karakoram ranges. The initial phase of the trek would culminate in Chilling villagethat is famous for Ladakhs metal works. From here, you would be using the cable pulley to cross the river. Our equipment would be carried by the ponies available on the other side. Then, we can move towards the Markha Valley, which is perhaps the most beautiful of Ladakh's valleys.

Then, you would be passingthrough many settlements, fields and come close to a unique culture. While there are many river crossings, they are easy to tackle. You would be making it though many other passes, gorges and lush pastures before reaching Matho village. The only Sakyapa sect monastery is located here constructed atop a hillbetween Stakna and Stok. From here, you can get a spectacular view of the entire valley.

Ladakh occupies a very strategic position in Asia, presenting itself as a frontier province of India where three international borders meet. In the past some of the busiest trade routes of central Asia crisscrossed here. Two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges: The Karakoram and the Great Himalayas surround it in the north and south respectively. Geographically it is the northwestern extension of high and dry Tibetan plateau.

Consequently, rainfall is scanty and the general terrestrial features of the area are dry and deserted. Ladakh has kept alive the dwindling Tibetan cultural heritage. Thousands of religious and cultural monuments in the form of monasteries, nunneries and hermitages dot its arid terrain. It is in Ladakh alone one can savor the variety and beauty of unique and self-contained Himalayan Civilization.

Stok Kangri is a perfect destination for climbers wishing to climb above 6000 mts. You can always have a view of this beautiful peak from Leh town. Once you are at the summit you can see the amazing views of the Saser Kangri (7670mts) in the Karakoram Range, Kang Yatse (6400mts.) and Nun Kun (7135mts)

Later we visit Ganda La for some spectacular views of Zanskar and Stok ranges followed by camping at skew. We hike through valleys, visit monasteries and trek through various routes. It is one of the most adventurous treks on an isolated route which takes far into the mountains. It is a real wilderness experience for the adventure seekers, and the best period for exploration is from August to October when most of the snow has melted and the roaring rivers are passable.

The trek starts from Hemis monastery (one of the richest monastery in Ladakh. It enters in famous Markha Valley and Zanskar via Junglam, which is open only for a month. In summer this route is closed due to water crossing and in winter heavy snowfall.

This itinerary is very less frequented and we have to cross rivers many times. The Ladakh trekking tour will be an ideal one in September only when flow of water is low. Until Zangla during first seven days we will not see even a single village.

It is an extremely demanding trek as one constantly has to acclimatize with the high altitudes and be constantly on the move. One does get a one of a kind experience traversing through the adventurous trek routes. Hemis-Padum is an unusual journey which will leads to discovery of a world of untouched beauty.

Zanskar is located right to the south west of Leh and is surrounded by Zanskar ranges and the stunning Himalayan Treks. This is a valley that is located at an over 13,000 feet height above the level of the sea and the covered area is of around 5,000 square kilometers. This route is very well known as a winter trekking spot for adventure lovers.

If you want to go on the really isolated route available, you can only do so for around 4 months yearly because of the heavy snowfall in the area. Zanskar access passes are closed if too much snow is present. However, this also allows the area to remain a surviving cultural Tibet satellite. The esoteric Buddhism nature and the isolation present made it possible for the 10,000 inhabitants to properly perpetuate and preserve cultural identity.

The recommended Chadar Trek will allow people to basically penetrate the isolation and visit various visits along Zanskar River right in the middle of winter. You can notice a part of the current lifecycle and can visit ancient monastic establishments like Zangla and Karsha. You will gain a better insight into the Shangri-la mysteries. Some of the most interesting locations you will visit on the Chadar Expedition are Lingshed, Chilling, Zangla, Pishy, Pidmo and Hanamur.

Camel Trekking or Caravan with camels has been a vogue for Ladakh quest since Seventeenth century until partition was done in the year of 1947. Camel Traveling is predominantly evident in Nubra Area from Hundar up to the Diskit .Bactrian camels, along with dual humps, are basically also recognized as the 'Real Camel'. The offspring of those camels were used for riding and transportation in the 'Silk Route' in the consecutive centuries of 17th, 18th and 19th.

The most distinctive feature of the Bactrian camel is its two humps. These humps, contrary to popular belief, are designed to store fat and not water. Bactrian camels are classified as herbivores. They prefer vegetation that is prickly, dry, salty, and/or bitter. However, when food is scarce they will eat bones, and various types of animal flesh.

This trip involves three days of seeing in the desert from over a camel.

    About the Destination:

The Stok Kangri trek is experienced by many people and is considered the best trekking experience in the Himalayan Mountains of Ladakh. Stok Kangri is the highest mountain range of the Himalayas in Ladakh region. Trekkers flock from different parts of the world just to trek here. The best season to go trekking in Ladakh is July, August and September. The place is usually dry in these months with a few bursts of rains in July and August.

The Stok Kangri summit trek is considered one of the most challenging treks in the Himalayan Mountains. The final altitude that is achieved in the trek is 20, 080 ft., which is almost 70% height of the Mount Everest. The place has many scenic locations and vast meadows adorned with multi-coloured flowers albeit the speculation of it being a dry place.

    About the Departure with Details:

The Stok range lies on the southern skyline of Leh, the capital of Ladakh, and Stok Kangri is the highest mountain in the range. During your Stok Kangri expedition from Delhi, the first two days are set aside for acclimatisation and during this time we will visit the colourful monasteries of Shey & Thiksey and checkout the effervescent market in Leh. We set off on our 4 day acclimatization trek to the Base Camp starting from Matho Village and then over the Matho La. The climb up to the summit is technically straightforward and safe of any objective dangers. On the summit stretch, we cross a glacier and then a steep climb on to the south ridge from where it is an exposed walk right up to the summit. It’s a challenging climb even for the fittest of the climbers and is a great adventure in Himalayan mountaineering. Amidst the tiring climb and the trek, you will get an opportunity to experience this place first hand with all its flora and fauna. Though the place is dry, it still is charming enough to give you the best panoramic view of the Himalayan Mountains.
