THIMPHU CHORTEN

Among the several Thimphu tourist attractions, Memorial Stupa or Thimphu Chorten is a very popular tourist spot. In Tibetian language, the word ‘chorten’ means a ‘Seat of Faith’. Thimphu Chorten is the perfect exemplar of the Buddhist architecture. It was built in 1974 in the memory of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third king of Bhutan. 

Thimphu Chorten is a religious place for the bhutanese and they often offer their prayers. It is regarded as a symbol of peace. The chorten has some beautiful shrines dedicated to Buddha and to the king. Located in the heart of the city, this marvel of architecture showcases the sacred vibes of Bhutan.
