Rumtse To Kiber Trek Overview

The trek commences at Leh proceeding towards east covering about 70 kilometers to reach Rumtse. The great Rupshu Valley settles between three places; Ladakh covering the northern segment, Tibet that owns eastern part and finally, Zanskar dominating the western segment.Focusing on Rumtse features, it can clearly identified with arid plains, snow peaks, remote villages, high altitude beautiful lakes and the greatest lying Tsomoriri fourth five hundred meters away.

This real remote region can be easily accessed occasionally especially during summer. The area inhabitants are mainly goat herders and nomadic Yak originating from popular Tibetan. The herders wander all over these high mountains. Our journey of trekking in Ladakh region, will take us all along these unique mountains and finally stopping at summer settlement.

You secure a great chance of learning their culture. From here, we will then propel towards south heading to Spiti. This routes passes along the river valley. While trekking, you will encounter diverse wild animals, snow peaks and finally end the walk at Kiber, a famous place known of its great Monastery.

Day One:

Three hours of driving from Leh-Rumtse to Kyamar(A distance of 4050m)

Encounter exciting drive right from Leh direct to Rumtse. Here, capture several monasteries and Indus valley on your way. The first tour day can be easily managed as it involves short trekking on flat terrain up to acclimatization. Camping will be done at Kyamar located near the spring.

Day Two:

Kyamer directly to Tisaling(a 4200m away)

Take energizing breakfast for challenging trekking exercise ahead of you. This time round, gradual ascent is our beginning point as we head to Kumur La located about 4800m away. Here, capture great and beautiful mountains and Changthang ranges. On the Kumur way we might see nomads herding Yaks, goats and sheep. Before setting to Mandalchan, a short rest will be taken.Mandaalchan is basically located 4850m east of Kumur.Finally, the group will be retiring back to campsite located at Tisaling.

Day Three:

The journey proceeds from Tisaling to great Ponganabu. It takes utmost 6hrs.

In day two equipped as with acclimatization familiarity for conquering the rest of exercises.Covering 49oom from Tisaling, we almost take 2 hrs to land at Shibuk La. As we joyous walk, surrounding mountains and diverse natural features will vividly come into our site as we walk down to Tsokar Lake. Here, a fifteen minutes break will be preceded bywalking down to the valley as shrill whistles from Shy Marmots give a company. This is a bare truth of harsh region. After 4 hr walk, we will finally end the day at Pongunabu and spend the night there.

Day Four:

Ponganagu directly to Nuruchan(about 4300m or 6-hr walk)

This day involves walking along jeep road heading to TsokarLake.As we tour further along salty shores, rarely we can see endangered birds that migrate time to time. From here, we will board a train taking us to Nuruchan. In this place, the touring group will enjoy enormous grassy lands with long and wide streams.

Day Five:

Nuruochan cover approximately 5100m to Gyamar Barma.

We need to prepare for this tough day. The journey begins by crossing cold streams found in Nuruchan before ascending direct to HorlamKongka La, a 4900m distance. While standing here, enjoy the magnificent view of turquoise Tsokar. We then take about 40 min walking down to Rajungkaru. As we trek, the group will gaze at nomads herding goats, sheep and Yaks.

Taking the next 50 minutes, the tour group will eventually step into nearby nomad settlement. Originated from the west or Tibetan region, the nomads were battered by Chinese opening doors for numerous sufferings like fighting, losing of lives and other hardships. This made them flee fromgreat Tibet to Ladakh.At a glance, you gain many lessons, learn culture and understand historical facts underlying the Tibet region. Past Nomadic region, next is to descend gradually covering approximately 5150m to land Gyamar Barma campsite. Because of the altitude of this region, the nights might be cold.

Day Six:

From Gyamar-Barma to famousGyamar (4 hrs walk)

In the morning, surprisingly we will encounter grazing Yaks surrounding use. After having our breakfast, we straight head to Kartse La, a place situated about 5300 meters away. We will slowly ascend the plateau and finally hit the pass. Fore here, trail will lead us down to a green valley of popular Gyamar where dinner will be offered and spend night.

Day Seven:

From Gyamar directly to Korzok which is about 4500m away (7hrs)

We will slowly ascend to the highest pass on our trekking. Walking 5450 meters long, in a narrow thorny valley till we land at YalungNyaulung La. At this place, flowers and diverse unique herbs of great Himalayan region can be seen. These fragrances will leave you astonished.

Turning to the right side, you will capture Snow Mountains and above all, gaze at beautiful Tsomoriri Lake. This great lake is actually surrounded by Snow Mountains. Further, we descend for some hours before we meet KorzokPhu full of summer pasture benefiting Korzok People.

Day Eight:

Form Korzok directly to Kyangdam which is 4595 meters (5hrs)

Enjoy easy and short walk this day. Trekking slowly to the south of the great lake, we will be amazed with diverse and beautiful natural features. Our campsite is just located in the other side.

Day Nine:

Moving from Kyangdam to Skitpodangsa located 4563 Meters or Famous NurbooSumdo (5hrs)

Immediately after leaving Kyangdam, we will comfortably cross the river as we proceed towards east walking on plain ground.ChumikSharte spring will appear after trekking for about 2 hours. Continue keeping the same direction and leave behind NurbooSumdo. The Skitpodangsa camp is just next to a river. This is where we spend the night.

Day Ten:

Starting from Skiotpodangsa towards Getpabuzak which is about 4600 meters (5hrs)

This is another day coming with easy exercise. Trekking along Parangchu towards south as you head to Getpabuzak will take a few hours. Next to slopes, the campsite lies where we will stay till the next day.

Day Eleven:

Right from Getpabuzak directly to Tarangyokmaregion (about 4731 Meters)

Following same direction, slowly trek for about 4 hours passing the tributaries. The campsite is just around; stay there till the next day.

Day Twelve:

Moving from Ladakh in Tarangokma to GompaKarsha about 4900m away (4hrs)

The walk on this day is quite easy. We shall walk towards east till we meet huge rockwhere you will carefully cross huge river. Keep moving till you hit Parang La where our overnight camp resides.

Day Thirteen:

Tarangyokma to great Takkarzong lying 4850m away

This day involves crossing Parang La which lies 5650 meters away. Past the glacier, trek toward right hand of glacier paving through foothill until the crevasses start narrowing. Aiming at top pass, change your direction towards south. The final and greatest pass has two sides: one with prayer flags and the other is totally dry steeping down. Just next to this huge rock, lies the composite.

Day Fourteen:

Takkarzong to great Thagltak lying 4500m (5hrs)

Trekking down to the great river called Parangchu, follow the eastern path leading to a narrow gorge. On reaching Thagltak, you will probably cross this river and ascend towards the southern region. Here, meet overnight camp with running spring water.

Day Fifteen:

Thagltakto the popular Kibber(3hrs)

Moving to easthern direction, have rare opportunity of watching Kibber village immediately after crossing the great river. This walk takes almost 2 hours.

Day Sixteen:

Drive from Kibber to Manali.
