Tea, Triund and Trails – The Journey to View Dhauladhar Ranges

“But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.”
Jack Kerouac

There is a different kind of freshness in the mountains which revitalizes the human body completely. I have always loved Himachal Pradesh, and would never leave a chance to visit the mountains there”, says the 20-year-old Gurugram dweller, who is a nature-lover, adventurer and considers life as a one-time offer you can’t refuse.

Meet the Happy-go-lucky Trekker – Paritosh Mahajan

Meet Paritosh, a 20-year-old, who looks for every single opportunity available to the run to the mountains, loves life like there’s not a single worry in the world.  The carefree, casual, traveling soul, who breathes the local vibes of the place he is traveling to, is a strong believer of Carpe Diem; and finds beauty in everything.
The love for the mountains has taken this traveler to Himachal a number of times; and next ones on his bucket list are Indrahar Pass Trek, Roopkund Lake Trek, Leh-Ladakh Tour and eventually the Everest Base Camp Trek.

The Craze for the Mountains – Planning the Triund Trek

In a quick chat with Paritosh, we asked him as to why did he choose the Triund Trek. He responded by saying, “I have always loved Himachal Pradesh and I wanted to go again. Upon searching for treks, the trek to Triund seemed to be a beautiful option.”
Well, we would not blame Paritosh. The Triund top offers trekkers a mesmerizing view of the beautiful Kangra Valley on one side and the mighty Dhauladhar Mountain on the other. Since the trek is only a single night and two days long, a lot of trekkers absolutely prefer to undertake the Triund Trek.

Embarking on the Triund Trek – The Itinerary

Paritosh’s journey began on the 23rd of June 2018 when he reached McLeodganj, early in the morning, after catching an overnight bus from Delhi. The journey to the Triund top takes the trekkers through lush-green and mixed forests of deodar, oak, and rhododendron. After having trekked for about 5-6 hours, they finally entered a ridge, on either side of which are located the beautiful Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar range.
For all those who might plan Triund Trek in 2018 and later, one only needs to be fit enough for an 18 km uphill and downhill trek. Holistically, the Triund Trek is the best way to test one’s trekking soul!

The Uphill Climb to Triund

A long excruciating 5 and a half hour trek led the group to stand at the top of Triund, and as Paritosh quotes, “I forgot all about the exhaustion and started to walk faster. In front of me lay the mighty Dhauladhar ranges, almost as if floating in the clouds. It’s difficult to express that moment in words”. The group settled down for a quick meal after setting up their tents, and the guides engaged in grouping them together, entertaining them with the local tell-tales of the mountains and Triund.
Paritosh was still mesmerized with the unknown-to-him beautiful night sky, and a conversation with a fellow traveler kept him up late. Indeed, the hearts had reached the Triund top too, and wanted to stick around for a couple of days more!

The Down-hill Trek to McLeodganj

The next day, Paritosh woke up to the most delightful morning view he ever laid his eyes on. As soon as he parted the tent doors, the temperature was pretty cool, and the clouds blanketed the entire region with the whispering mountain air. After a healthy breakfast of tea and sandwiches, the group started making its way from the Triund top to the town of McLeodganj.
While some of the trekkers wanted to stay back, some secretly wished to make a house in the mountains; and whereas others made a silent promise to come back sooner. Triund had indeed made a place in their hearts, and Paritosh was going to be back in Triund soon!

Before You Feel Lucky at Triund – Consider these Pointers by Paritosh

Paritosh thanked Thrillophilia for making the Triund Trek package so amazing. He also recommends the following pointers to all those planning to go to the Triund top.

  • Carry at least one pair of warm clothes, for it gets really cold at night; even in summers
  • Vodafone was perhaps the only network to function without a hiccup
  • Interact with locals as much as you can; for they offer you a trivia which no other person can
  • Carry a power bank, and a decent camera for the landscapes throughout the journey are very picturesque
  • Carry dry fruits, snacks and protein bars. It always comes in handy at the top
