Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is located on the way to Teerthahalli, 30 kms away from Shimoga. This bird sanctuary is smaller than the other bird sanctuaries found in Karnataka, but it still is well known for housing some of the most spectacular looking bird species. Like several other sanctuaries, the backdrop of this one is also dense forest and a river called Tunga. When here, expect to come across birds like median egret, darter and the cormorant. For photographers the place is a heaven as they can have frames after frames capturing the birds taking their aerial flights or simply being on the barks pecking wood. There are around 5000 birds living inside these places which can be quiet a scene to watch if all appeared together. Nevertheless the place is good for trekking, tenting and staying overnight. The best time to visit is August.
