For the rafters plunging into this adventure sport with professional trainers and guides, the best stretch is between Spituk and Saspol. Beyond Saspol, the river turns difficult and crossing this stretch requires each participant to be technically skilled and a lot of detailed careful organization is much needed.
Most difficult rafting route at Zanskar:
The rafting route along the Zanskar with the highest level of difficulty is through the gorge in the Zanskar Mountains, between Padum and Nimo. This is suitable only for well organized white-water expedition. Several days of preparation including river running and camping in the wilderness is required to qualify to attempt rafting on this stretch. The participants themselves are required to be trained rafters and to add on, the arrangements should be assigned to a dependable professional agency in order to successfully complete this expedition.
Rafting Tips:
An important pre-requisite for embarking upon a white water expedition on a river like the Zanskar is to ensure that adequate arrangements for rescue coverage has been made and is in place.
