It lies at Pushpavati stream which is joined by several smaller streams and waterfalls at an altitude from 3352 meters. And can be drawn near from Badrinath, Joshimath and Ghansali to West, South and North East respectively through high Mountain Passes which remains open around May. The best season to visit The Himalayan Flowers of the valley is July to August.

The Valley of Flowers is vital on account of its diverse alpine flora; it is a representative of West Himalayan biogeography zone. The panoramic landscape of the Valley of Flowers National Park complements the rugged mountain wilderness of Nanda Devi National Park.

HEMKUND (4329 mtrs) -A part of Valley of flowers.

Hemkund is nestled with seven snow covered peaks. Its high altitude lake is regarded as holy by both Sikhs and Hindus. Here, we will explore the glaciers from Hati Parbat and Sapat Shiring Peaks, which nourish the lake. The most accepted way to Hemkund and Valley of Flowers is from Govind Ghat on the Badrinath road and is a common trek up to Ghagharia, from where we will climb a steep valley up to Hem Kund. There is a Gurdwara and a rest house in Hemkund.

In the Garhwal Himalayas, there lays a Shri Hemkund Sahib, a cobalt-colored lake, surrounded by seven peaks of Saptashringa Parvat on its bank. It is located at Gurudwara dedicated to the 10th Guru of Sikhs, Guru Govind Singh, the founder of the Khalsa Panth. Guru Govind Singh meditated on the banks of this lake in his earlier life as Rishi Bishala and was also known as Rishi Medhasa and Madhakth. A mention of this rishi is made in Markandey Purana.

The best season to visit Hemkund is between July and October. During these days, we will find the water still, which has shards of ice floating in it, glinting in the sun with the rock-strewn banks of the lake covered in moss and the flowers in bright bloom.
