70 km from Cochin, The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary otherwise known as Thattekad Sanctuary is in Kothamangalam district, Ernakulam district. It lies on the northern bank of the Periyar River. The century was declared as a sanctuary in 1983 on behalf of the suggestions of Dr. Salim Ali. Due to the richness in the variety of bird species here, and to get more glimpses of the phenomenal varieties, a large quantity of teak and mahogany is cultivated in the lowland areas of these regions. The forest is spread in an area of 25.16 sq km and has tropical semi green deciduous forests. You will find Sloth bears, Porcupines, leopards, elephants and many such mammals in the forests here.

Day 1

You will start for Thatekkad early morning. Have breakfast on the way and. Check into the hotel and get ready for the trek. You will trek through the Thattekkad sanctuary and the Periyar River which flows by the rain forest. Return back to the hotel when the sun sets and have dinner. Spend the night at the hotel.

Day 2

You start your day with good break fast. Spend the day sight seeing. Go for bird watching, Mountain Biking, Trekking, Jeep Safari and elephant training centre visit. Have dinner in the hotel and stay overnight in the resort.
