The Stok Kangri Trek and Climb is one of the simpler treks for the amateur expeditors. It starts on any day of the week during the months of June, July, August, September and October and this is an ideal trek for small treks.
Stok Kangri (elevation 6,137 m (20,135 feet) is the highest mountain in the Stok Range of the Himalayan Treks. Kangri is a fine peak for Trekking in Ladakh and an excellent opening for climbing in the Himalayas. Stok Kangri is considered to be a suitable 'starter expedition' for trekkers. It has the power of fascinating monasteries of the Indus Valley. The spectacular and great monastic Festival is celebrated at Tak Thok and one should include it in the must see list. One can also enjoy the sight of the Saser Kangri (7670mts), Kang Yatse 6400mts. and Nun Kun (7135mts), which happen to be a part of the Karakoram Range. Although straightforward, the route is challenging and interesting, providing amazing views of the Karakoram Range, and on a clear day views of Mont. K2 in the far distance.

Day 01: From Spituk to Zingchen 3700 m which takes 4-5 hours.
The first day comes with easy walk of 2 hours and would take us to the camp site at 4200 meters. We will stop here for acclimatizing.
Day 02: Zingchen to Rumbak 3900 m. It takes 3-4 hours.
On the second day we will go to Hemis National Park. We can see the home of the famous Snow Leopard, Blue Sheep, Ladakhi Urial (a type of goat), great Tibetan sheep (Arghali), red fox, Tibetan wolf, wild dog (dhole), Lynx, marmot and mountain hare. We set up to climb up to the village of Rumbak, through a beautiful ravine. Rumbak is known as a place to see and run a research on the Himalayan snow leopard.
Day 03: Rumbak to Mancarmo (4200 m) via Stok la 4900 m needs 5 – 6 hrs.
The trail up to the base of Stok la (4900 m) starts fairly gradual but becomes steeper as we approach the pass. Views of the Indus valley and remarkable colourful rock formations of Stok la will diminish the hardship of the climb. We have to hike until we reach some stone houses, used by the Stok villagers for summer pasture.
Day 04: Mancarmo – Base Camp. It takes 3-4 hrs.
Mancarmo Base camp is a desolate area where we can find only marmots and blue sheep. It is surrounded by lofty mountains.
Day 05: Base Camp – Summit 6150 m – Base Camp which takes 10-11 hrs
We will leave early at around 2 – 3 am. However, it all depends on the weather and snow conditions. It’s wise to go early because snow is harder and easier to walk on. Reaching the Summit it gets a bit steeper, and at times we may need to use Ice axe and crampons. The majestic & mesmerizing views of the Himalayas would tend to rob you of your hardships.
Day 06: Base Camp – Stok (4 hrs)
After breakfast we will walk down to Stok, a jeep will be waiting to take us back to our Hotel in Leh.
