Day-1 Thattekkad bird sanctuary
Start from Kochi either from hotel or airport. Move towards bird sanctuary of Thattekkad. Located at the lowest altitude, this evergreen forest of Thattakkad sanctuary houses 280 species of colorful birds. It is one of the low altitude evergreen forests. Birdlife includes various birds such as white bellied tree pie, grey hornbill, rufous babbler and several water birds. You get a chance to put up in the majestic river resort called Periyar river lodge.
Day-2 Munnar for highland birds
Wake up with rising sun, get ready after having light food. This day is occupies for birding in the region. Continue trailing till you reach hills at Munnar. Munnar is a town of tea founded by the British. A famous hill station, Munnar is set at the elevation 1500 m. The whole region is surrounded by tea plants. The mountain forests are rich with its flora and fauna. Birds like Nigiri flycatcher, Nikgiri pipit. These birds are sighted clearly in surrounding areas too.
Day-3 Chinnar for dryforest birds
On this day, you will do birding in the mountain forests. Explore Chinnar wildlife sanctuary. The misty morning journey will take you to the lofty Ghats with Palani hills. The woodlands comprises of dry deciduous to arid flora and fauna. There are n numbers of rare species. Migrant birds are the main attractions here. The shelter of many migrant birds dam of Amaravathi and its catchments are set in the zone of meeting point of Western Ghats and Decan Plateau. Take night halt at the hotel or in the Chandana residency.
Day-4 For farm forest birds and farm stay
Get ready and start moving towards Banyan Tree Farm Resort which is located in the out skirt of Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park. By noon time, you will trail through some woodland of the resort.
Day-5 For great Indian hornbill watch
This whole day will be spent in a tour of observing the birds of Anamalai Hills. The great Indian hornbill is the main attraction. Have your dinner and sleep over at the hotel.
Day-6 Masinagudi
Stunningly set in the foothill of Ootty, Masinagudi is an exotic locale. Check into the hotel, freshen up yourself and explore the wildlife of the area. Thousands of devotees visit the temples and pilgrimage centers of Mysore.
Day-9 -Mysore to explore Water birds
The whole day is occupied for exploring the Rangathittu Bird Sanctuary. This is a well known place to encounter with billed pelicans, flamingos, white storks etc. The gorgeous river can be clicked in your camera. The spot called Rangathittu has abundant islands on the river Cauvery. These islands are home to some migratory birds. Take night halt at the hotel of Mysore.
Day-10 Kabani-Wayand
Get up early morning, and start moving towards Kabani. On reaching, check into the Hotel. On this day you are free to explore wildlife. Spend a night in the hotel. The milieu of this sanctuary is bounded by Karapur woods. There is a pristine part of land which bristles with nature. An exciting holiday is spent with rich wildlife in steep valleys with spectacular pools. You get a chance to revive with audacious spirits.
Day 11 – Kabani
Drive to Kabani where your full day will be spent in various activities. The pristine lake of Kabani and the catchments are the lands of birds. Stay here at night in the hotel. The landscape is amazing. The sun peeps through dense forests. Elephants, leopards and antelopes can be found. This experience can be cherished lifetime.
Day 12 – Wayanad
After having breakfast, start your voyage towards the forests of Wayanad. Check into the hotel once you reach Wayand. At your leisure you can have fun in various activities. Night is spent here in the hotel. The main attractive feature of Wayanad is its rich vegetation grown in cool weather. Some of the wild kinds of trees are rose wood, Erthrina and anjili. Day 13 – Wayand
On this day you are free to explore Wayanand wildlife sanctuary. Spend a night at the hotel. This sanctuary is an internal part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Wayand is abundant in its vegetation.
Day-14 – Return to Cochin for transfer
Last day of your trip will lead you to Cochin. Get transferred for your inward journey.
Please note: If you want to cut short the tour at Mysore you can fly back from bangalore/ or after visiting wayanad you can fly back from Calicut instead of Cochin.
