Leh was once the beautiful capital city if the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh. Today, it is a district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Leh trip is filled with the ruins of the historic palace of yester years and is thus very rich in heritage. This beautiful fertile valley was an important halting place for the ancient traders trading in silk in Tibet, China and India. Thereby, this came to be called the silk route.
There are two main rivers through the valley namely the Shyok River and Nubra River. The double humped camel can be spotted on the banks of the River Shyok. Enchanting century old monasteries can be spotted all over Leh Ladakh tour adding to the natural beauty of this historic town.
120 km away from Leh is the Numbra Valley which houses the pictersque villages of Hunder and Deskit. The highest motorable pass called the Khardungla sitting tall at 18,380 ft. has to be crossed in order to reach the Numbra Valley.
Around 150 km away from Leh is the sparkling Pangong Tso Lake which freezes completely during winter. In order to get to this spectacular lake, the Changla Pass has to be crossed. Elevated at a height of 17,350 ft. this pass is the third highest motorable road in the world.
