A tiny state and a charm of India, Meghalaya is tucked away in-between Assam and Bangladesh. Meghalaya is the place where the nature has poured in abundance the gifts of rain and sunshine. Meghalaya is nestled between clouds, lush green forests and smoky hills, which will surly, enchant you while exploring the caves of Meghalaya. Meghalaya is just the one place for having 780 caves in the State, still many to be explored. In the same hill, other caves are the cave of Eocene Age - Krem Um-Lawan, Krem Kotsati, Krem Umshangktat, Krem Lashinng, Krem Sweep. Prominent caves are set in the villages of Amlarem, Pdengshakap, Syndai and Nongtalang. Caving in Meghalaya is a comparatively new escapade which attracts number of tourists to India's northeastern state. Caving in Meghalaya is only done under the guidance of a skilled cave guide.
Day1 Krem Liat Prah
The longest natural cave in India, Krem Liat Prah is among the 150 already discovered caves in the Shnongrim Ridge of Jaintia Hills. According to the survey, its current length of about 25 kilometers will be increased as nearby caves continue to be linked. Aircraft Hangar- an enormous trunk passage is the main attraction.
Day2 Synrang-Pamiang
This cave is located in north of the track from Chiehruphi village. It is proved that, this cave is India's 3rd longest cave. It is very rich in colored formations. A chamber called “Titanic Hall” is one of the most good-looking, and embellished with pearls. You can get entry in any of these five entrances; Krem Musmari, Thloolong Cherlamet, Krem Eit Hati and Krem Khlieh Trai Lum.
Day3 Krem Lubon
In the Sutnga/Sakhain area (near N25°1708'; E92°2731), situated at the foot of a 30m high waterfall is a resurgence cave Krem Lubon, with an impressive rectangular entrance measuring 16 m wide and 8 m high. The cave entrance hidden behind the waterfall is reminiscent of the legendary 'Phantom Cave'.
The large passage gradually deteriorates in size to pass high level breakdown chambers characterized by unstable boulders before it continues into a wet flat-out crawl. The length of this cave is 687m.
Day4 Krem Chympe
Krem Chympe, India’s 5th longest cave placed 3 km north of the road passing through the Khaddum village and Sielkan. The river cave has large deep caves in which you would be required to swim. This cave has a bats and possibly cave-adapted fish. This cave has a lot of new things waiting to be discovered. Sielkan Pouk performs as a sink to the cave system.
Day5 Kotsati - Umlawan Cave System
An entry point of Krem Kotsati sets in the centre of Lumshnong village. You need to swim to get into the cave. The entrance is submerged in monsoons. Being a system network of all caves of Meghalaya, this cave has 24 entry points. No part of the cave is more than one hour away from the nearest entrance.
Day6 Krem Umkseh
The gorgeous cave entrance is located at the rear of sawmill to the south of the Lumshnong Petrol Station. The river cave contains several arrangements and mostly low, broad, damp and swarming size bedding plane passages. The length of this cave is 1268 m.
Day7 Krem Shrieh (Tangnub Monkey Cave)
Tangnub Monkey cave is reachable from the village of Tangnub. It lies at the end of a fluted canyon. This cave has marvelous key-hole passages. These passages are covered with orange mud. Just one entrance needs prusiking on the way out. India’s 5th longest cave is presently the deepest direct shaft known in India.
Day8 Krem Mawshun
Decorated high level passages are the main attraction of this cave. This cave system is 3339 m in length. River cave collects water for a number of inlets and drains water from the east region of the Lelad village.
Day9 Krem Syndai / Krem Jogindra
If you move to the village to a point where it gets steeped and immediately below this, a small path will take you through the forest to the left, where the cave entrance lies. The entrance opens with the impressive proportions. This cave is worshiped by Hindu saints, who come from Nepal. Krem Jogindra has some amazing calcite formations.
Day10 Krem Umthloo
Walk down to the slope from Tongseng village, and reach to a sink which is free climbable and will take you to a very unstable boulder blocking. The downward passage leads to the dream of cavers, of big stream-way passages. An ultimate river cave with magnificent formations would leave you enchanted.
Day 11Krem Iawe
Krem Iawe cave is located on upper reaches of the Litien valley. The cave has umpteen beautiful fossil passages. Krem Iawe is 3398m in length. This cave has the impressive daylight lit pot-hole; this can be entered through a free climbable slot in a sheltered corner.
Day 12
Krem Mawkhyrdop is also Krem Mawmluh. The main entrance is set at the bottom of the western flank of Lum Lawbah. You can easily reach to downstream for about 200 meters to a point where the river vanishes underground. You need to swim to enter into the main sink. The best way to enter the cave is that you pass through a high level entrance, runs parallel to the main passage.
Day 13 Krem Dam and Mawsmai Cave
A remarkable opening of Krem Dam is situated at the foot of a big blind valley, to the east of Mawsynram village. The brook runs down beneath the cave and the valley gets into the cave. This cave is formed in a grainy facies of limestone which looks like sandstone. Mawsmai Cave has a very large river passage. Krem dam has no significant calcite formations. It is the only cave that is fully lighted. It has notable arrangements of huge openings and passageways.
Day 14: Krem Lymput
Set around 6 km from the village called Nongiri, this cave has hidden entrance, which has been covered by forests. It is a beautiful cave to explore. The main small entrance hole runs with inclines walls. Move towards a passage, known as “Way to Heaven”. The slippery climb moves to the galleries. These galleries are rich with its calcite formations. Mughal Room is the prime attraction.
