The “Abode of clouds”- Meghalaya, reveals the climatic phenomenon. It brings torrents of rain to this region. A region of scenic beauty, Meghalaya has lush green areas, crumpling hills, fertile valleys, species, orchids, meandering rivers, waterfalls, sparkling mountain streams and lakes. The hills of Khasi boast of having the deepest and longest of the caves in South Asia. Visits of Meghalaya caves would be taken as a study, known as Meghalaya Adventurous Association. Seven days tour will make you explore various caves of Meghalaya. On the first phase, you will visit Synrang- Pamiang has five entrances and popular for its “Titanic Hall”. Krem Liat Prah cave is one of 150 known caves in the Shnongrim Ridge of the Jaintia Hills district. Mawsmai Cave is the only show cave, enormously lighted. Another cave, Krem Lymput is known for its rich calcite formations and Mughal rooms. Krem Mawmluh is also called as Krem Mawkhyrdop, has five river passages of impressive proportions. Explore the Krem Mawjymbuin, which has become a holy shrine for Hindu. It is a famous place for Hindu pilgrims. Krem Chympe is a resurgence cave, the last part of this tour.
Day 01: Synrang- Pamiang
Situated in north from Chiehruphi village, this cave is India’s third largest cave, on NH 44 to Musianglamare. It is very rich in its colored formations. This cave consists of five entrances, rest four entrances are Krem Musmari, Thloolong Cherlamet, Krem Eit Hati and Krem Khlieh Trai Lum. The stream way is 7.63 km long. It is a single cave passage. This cave has a “Titanic Hall”, which is beautifully embellished, with thousands of huge cave-pearls are sprinkled on the floor.
Day 02: Krem Liat Prah
Liat Prah is longest natural cave in India, set in the Shnongrim Ridge of the Jaintia Hills district in the state of Meghalaya, northeast India. After the survey, it is cleared that, this cave is 25 km long and it may increase as nearby caves continue to be linked. Its enormous trunk passage- Aircraft Hanger is its dominant characteristic.
Day 03: Mawsmai Cave
This cave is located in the village of Mawsmai, 6 km from the Sohra market. After crossing the village, pass grasslands which are surrounded by for¬ests and end in a clearing. Walk through the forest leading up to the main cave. It is the only cave which is fully lighted and divided into 2 halves.
Day 04: Krem Lymput
The cave lies about 6 km. from the village of Nongjri. The invisible entrance hidden in the jungle covered boulders reveals itself by the cool air it blows. It is another fine-looking and rather easy cave for any tourist. Walk for about an hour and enter into a series of spacious galleries, with its rich calcite formations. Mughal Room is the main attraction.
Day 05: Krem Mawkhyrdop or Krem Mawmluh
Main entry of this cave is set at the bottom of the western flank of Lum Lawbah. It is easily reached by you. If you go down for around 200 m towards a point, the river will be vanished! The best way to enter into this cave is, you move high parallel to its main passage. You will pass through water, and the effluents of the cement works.
Day 06: Krem Mawjymbuin
This cave is situated on a metal road, 500 m away from Mawsynram village. This route moves to the left and reaches the parking area by the cave. This appeals of a Shiva Lingam, and has now called as holy shrine for Hindu believers. The cave has an entrance chamber of 50 meters and has a large stalactite greater than a female stalagmite. This cave is shaped in calcareous sandstone. The height of this cave is 209 m. The cave has 2 passages; small stream is flowing under the left wall of the chamber. Another side passage leads to second rift entry, which exits out through the rear. Second passage goes to a small rift.
Day 07: Krem Chympe
It is an impressive river cave is situated around 3 km, along the track from the village of Khaddum to Sielkan. You need to swim 3.5 km over a series of deep and large lakes. These lakes are formed by more than 50 natural dams. The main attraction of this cave is that, it has cave-adapted fish and a huge colony of bats. The survey proved that, this cave is 5th longest cave and still some routes to be explored. Sielkan Pouk performs as a sink to the cave system.
