Kafni Glacier Trek

 

Stunningly located on the east of Pindar vale and south of Nanda kot peak, the region of Kafni glacier is abundant in its wildlife. The lofty summits such as Nanda kot and Nandabhanar are set nearby Kafni glacier. Start your voyage from Nainital through the holy river Ganges and Yamuna. Arrive at Kathdogam and drive to Kausani, which is placed at the ridge of Himalaya Treks. From here you take a glance of Himalayan peaks. Thereafter trek goes to the confluence of Gomti and river Saryu that is Bageshwar. Explore the temples of 9th century. Continue moving to song, the place where you respite.
Start trekking towards Loharkhet, a tiny village is set on the bank of the river Saryu. Explore the village called Khati. From Dwali, you can reach Kafni via Byali Udiyar. Continue hiking to the place called Phukria, where you find trees and alpine pastures. An elegant glacier of Kafni can be seen to the left side of Pindar valley and Nandakot. An easy trek of 4 km will bring you Byali Udiyar. Reach at the ridge of Dhakuri – Binjak, which provides spectacular sights of snowy Nandakot.

Major attractions:

Pindar: The only tributary of Kafni glacier is the picturesque river Pindari. It is also a tributary of Alaknanda.

Nandakot valley: Captivating valley of Nandakot is linked with Nanda Devi sanctuary. The name Nanda kot stands for “Nanda’s fortress”. It is regarded as the domicile of Goddess Parvati.

Bageshwar: The administrative head office of Bageshwar district, it is also a municipal board. Located on the meeting point of river Saryu, Bageshwar has many old temples of 10th century AD.
How to reach:

Air: Closest airport is Pant Nagar, which is 206 km.

Rail: The closest rail network is Kathgodam which is 180 km.

Road: The closest city is Bageshwar, well connected with major cities of the state. You get taxis as local transport.




Places to visit nearby:

Pindari glacier: Pindari glacier has lured many foreigners and local tourists. It is one of the most gorgeous glaciers and easily reachable of all the Himalayan glaciers. Set on the edge of Nanda Devi, the big and steep Pindari glacier is 12 km from Dwali.

Sunder Dhunga glacier: This ice mass is located at the right side of Pindar valley. Popularly known as the beautiful valley, it has two glittering and eminent glaciers of this valley such as Maiktoli and Sukhram.
Prerequisites/Facts/Suggestion:

• When you are on high altitude voyage, wear warm clothes.

• You require normal level of fitness as this hike is average.

• The highest peak of this trek is 4000 mts/13120 ft.

• Get familiar with climate before trekking.

• Keep silence to cherish the close proximity to the natural habitats.

• Do not run down the slopes and don’t walk on wet stones.

• Make sure that you do not spoil the camping sites and the places around while trekking.

Best time to visit: May to end of June and mid-September to end of November.
