Friendship Peak Trek

 

Friendship Peak is located in Pir Panjal range with a height of 5289m. This site offers a panoramic view of some snowy peaks namely Friendship. Friendship Pass Trek is a popular trekking spot in Himachal Fairly accessible location.

Friendship peak is in the Beas Kund area and is an ideal non-technical or trekking peak for those with limited or no mountaineering knowledge. This is the most popular mountain area for foreign tourists also. We will start our journey from Delhi, in first phase; we will reach to Manali. While touring we will visit Manali, the main attraction of tourists. A temple in Manali called Hadimba Temple is famous. Then we will visit Beas Kund, which is a small water body on the true left side of the glacier draining one of the many trickles which join to form the mighty Beas.

One of the best treks is from Solang Valley on to Dhundhi. While moving further we will have the opportunity to visit the Base camp. Then after we will visit Dhundhi (It is believed that there was once an Ogress called Dhundhi in the kingdom of Prithu) which is the last destination of our tour.
Day 01 : Delhi – Manali (1960m)

We can Board kalka Shatabadi, leaving Delhi at 7:40 am to reach Chandigarh at 11:00 am. Drive 8 hrs to reach Manali late in the evening. Alternatively, drive 12 hrs straight from Delhi to Manali Overnight stay is in Hotel in Manali.

Day 02: In Manali

On second day, early in the morning after having breakfast, we will get ready with our equipments to climb. Adjust yourself in your climbing gear (climbing boots, crampons and your harness).
After that we will get a chance to explore the town. There we will have options to visit the Hadimba temple, the Vashisht hot water springs or the Roerich Art Gallery in Naggar. In the night, we will have our dinner at a hotel in Manali.

Day 03: In Manali

Early in the morning after having breakfast drive for 2hrs up to the Rohtang pass, and hike for 2-3 hrs to get acclimatized. Take a lunch at the pass and drive back to Manali. After this pack up for the climb.

Day 04: Manali – Bakkarthach (3328m) 1hr drive and 3-4 hrs

This 3-4 hrs trek will bring us to Bakkarthach(After an early breakfast). Here we will drive for 1 hr via Palchan and Solang Nallah to Dhundi (2850m). The short run goes along the river Beas before crossing it and then ascends steeply to reach the grazing grounds of Bakkarthach. Get back into the hotel relish your dinner there.

Day 05: Bakkarthach – Friendship Base Camp (3586m) 4-5 hrs

Next day after having light food we will descend to the river and then a steep ascent brings us to the base camp. We cross the river Beas on a makeshift log bridge set up by the shepherds just below the snout of the Beas Kund Glacier.

Day 06: At Base Camp

At base camp have light food and spend the day around the base camp by practicing movement on the snow / ice. Get familiar with the use of your equipment. Learn the ropes and the how to arrest a fall on the slope.

Day 07: Base Camp – Camp I. 2-3 hrs

A 2-3 hrs trek takes us to Camp 1. It is a short acclimatization walk in the afternoon.

Day 08: At Camp I.

This day we will use for acclimatization. We can visit the route till the shoulder on the south east ridge and come back to Camp I.

Day 09: Camp I – Summit – Base Camp

Wake up early in the morning and quickly get ready for the climb up to the summit. It’s best to be up at the summit early in the morning to make the best of the weather and get a chance to see some of the great scenes. Get down to the base camp and have a party in the evening, and at night take dinner.

Day 09: Base Camp – Manali. 3-4 hrs trek and 1 hr drive

A one hour drive will take us to Trek Beas kund; and to the Dhundi. Stay there at night in hotel.

Day 10 : Manali – Delhi

Drive Manali to Chandigarh and board the Kalka Shatabdi leaving at 18:20 to reach Delhi by 21:40. Alternatively, drive 12 hrs from Manali to Delhi.
