The Dzongri Trek gets the best of West Sikkim particularly for those with little time and who do not want to confront the tough terrain; can enjoy the single trek through West Sikkim Treks. The unique landscape gets permanently imprinted on the trekkers’ mind. The Dzongri trek follows the trail embracing the sharp edged Singalila Ridge. The trek starts from Yuksom, the former capital of Sikkim, located in the velvet green at 5,800 feet, and concluding at the high point of Dzongri Top at 15,000 feet, right in the grandeur of the Kanchenjunga National Park.
The trek passes through moss laden, thickly forested ridges teeming with rich flora. Before culminating at the snowy heights of Kanchenjunga, it offers you a view of chestnut, oak, pine, maple and magnolia trees to name a few. An enchanting panorama of snow peaks forming an arc of 270 degrees through the azure sky. This is undeniably one of the most impressive treks in the region. Best Season is between April-June and October-December. Trek Grading: Effortless to Moderate. The highest altitude is Dzongri La Top, at about 4500 meters above sea level. Day 1: Bagdogra - Gangtok
Pick up at Bagdogra/New Jalpaiguri railway station and a 126 kilometer drive to Gangtok. The distance is covered in approximately 5 hours. Transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2: Gangtok
The day is reserved for sightseeing in and around Gangtok, preparing trekking permits etc. Overnight is at the hotel.
Day 3: Gangtok - Yuksom
After breakfast, we’ll take a 139 kilometer drive (six hour) to Yuksom. This lies at an altitude of 1,700m. Stay at your designated hotel for the night.
Day 4: Yuksom - Tsokha
Trek sets in motion from Yuksom to Tsokha. The distance of 12 kilometers is covered in 6 hrs. Overnight stay is at a camp, at an altitude of 3000 meters.
Day 5: Tsokha - Dzongri
From Tsokha to Dzongri, a 9 kilometer trek is covered in 5 hours. The altitude scaled is 4000 meters. Overnight stay is at the camp site.
Day 6: Dzongri
Sightseeing and acclimatization will be done at Dzongri which is situated at an altitude of 4500 meters. Overnight stay is in camp.
Day 7: Dzongri - Dzongri La
Halt at Dzongri (Altitude of 4500 meters).
Day 8: Dzongri - Tsokha
Start the trek back to Tsokha. Overnight stay is at camp.
Day 9: Tsokha - Yuksom
Continue the trek from Tsokha to Yuksam. Transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 10: Yuksom - Darjeeling
Drive from Yuksam to Darjeeling passing through Pelling. Visit Pemayangtse monastery on the way. Transfer to a hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 11: Darjeeling
Early morning visit to Tiger Hill for sunrise. Visit Yiga Choling monastery on the way back. Post breakfast visit to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Padmaja Zoological Park, Tibetan Self Help Centre and a Tea garden. Overnight stay is at a hotel.
Day 12: Darjeeling - Bagdogra
Drive to Bagdogra for the onward journey.
