Jageshwar is believed to house one of the twelve Jyotirlings. A 1,200-year-old magnificent tem¬ple is located in a picturesque narrow valley that is surrounded by verdant deodar trees. There are 124 temples and hundreds of spectacular statues inside the temple complex.

Almora to Jageshwar is a low-altitude temple trekking trail. You can reach Jageshwar from Almora via Kalmatia Sangam- Deora – Dhaulachina – Jwalabanj - Jageshwar. The major attractions of this trekking trail are the rhododendron treks, the colourful birds, the ancient temple of Vridh (old) Jageshwar, large deodar trees, the temple complex at Jageshwar. Intially, this easy level trek leads you through terraced fields, forests, Kumaoni villages, and more.

Kalmatia Sangam to Deora trail: Cross a bridge over a stream, and head upstream to reach the beautiful temple of Mahegad Shiva. You need to cross Bintola village, Rithapali village, Naini village to reach Deora.

Deora to Dhaulachina trail: In the beginning, the path is quite level and then the down-hill trek leads you through groves of pine trees. You cross Chirala village, Palyu village, Kahlon village to reach Dhaulachina. If you are an avid bird watcher, the forests area around Dhaulachina houses a number of colourful and rare bird species.

Dhaulachina to Jwalabanj trail: At little uphill trek at Dhaulachina takes you to Eco Tourist Resort. A small trail in front of the resort takes you uphill to the north, leading you to Mata Anandmayi Ashram. Following on the east side of the Ashram gate, you descend through chir forests, and ascend through dense oak and rhododendron forests to reach Jwalabanj. On the way, you get to see the spectacular Himalaya ranges clearly.

The rock garden at Jwalabanj provides you once in a life-time view—the view of the splendid Central Himalaya, from Neelkanth in Garhwal to Nampa in Nepal.

Jwalabanj to Jageshwar: It takes over one and half hour to reach Jageshwar, and on the way, there are gigantic boulders that are ideal spot for pitching your picnic tent.

How to Reach:

The nearest airport is in Pantnagar and the nearest railway station is in Kathgodam, which is well-connected with Lucknow, Delhi and Kolkata. Almora is well connected by road with all the major cities of UP and Uttaranchal. From Delhi, you can board the Ranikhet Express to reach Kathgodam. It takes around two hours to reach Almora from Kathgodam.

Martola: Located 10 km from Almora, the picturesque Martola is completely dotted with verdant gardens and forests. It’s considered a good picnic spot by the locals.

Gannath: Gannath is located 47 km from Almora. The place is bestowed with nature’s beauty. Natural caves and Shiva temples make this place attractive for both nature lovers and religious people. A fair is organised every year on Kartik Purnima.

Simtola: Simtola lies on the opposite side of a horseshoe ridge, and is located around 5 km from Almora. The place offers an enchanting view of the magnificent hills covered with pine, deodar and fur trees. There is a beautiful pine-covered picnic spot on the other side of the horseshoe ridge.
